Ashley, have you tried working her plan? What level are you in? IMO she is positively happy that so many women are ordering and making her money! She should be positive and happy…I wonder how many of the women in her area have been there 2 years or more?
I was in MK for 8.5 years and there was a whole new bunch of fresh faces every 4-6 months in our unit meetings. Do you ever wonder about the turnover in MK if it is so easy and everyone is so rich and successful? Just sayin it’s not all the way it is portrayed by the SD’s and NSD’s, and take a good look at how many SD’s are still SD’s after 3-4 years…a lot of turnover there too.
A.d.whats your point. You can.work your 9-5 for years wothout pay increase or promotion. Sounds like you’re pretty .negative and inaccurate… Ive never heard Gloria say it’s Easy.
Lipstick thank you again for making my point! Did I say anything about how her methods work? Or how wonderful her unit must be or anything else? Why do you have to bring everything down? STOP BEING NEGATIVE …just saying IMO.
Don’t let lipstick get you down. She is telling you her story, not yours.. The truth is that there are many that stop coming to weekly meetings because they have reached the level of success they enjoy, or directorship and now hold their own unit meetings, go to an adoptive directors meetings for different insight or give up and drop out. Some also come and go with meetings due to life circumstances. I had two surgeries, two additional hospital stays and was in a rather bad wreck over the past year. I know someone else who cared for both her own mother and her mother in law until they passed. Life happens. Now we are both back at the meetings.
Ashley, my dear, you are so in the fog, I won’t even argue with you. You wouldn’t see the TRUTH if it smacked you in the face. MK speak touts everything that doesn’t agree with their version of the truth as being negative. Open your eyes and read what I said. MY experiences and what I learned from being in Mk for 8.5 years.
I’m not knocking you, so why do you find it so important to knock me personally every time you post? My experiences were mine and you have no right dismiss what you don’t agree with.
Instead of bashing me, why don’t you tell about your experience?
Darling Lipstick,
please read my posts! there are plenty of my experiences that I have recently posted. I would love your feed back. I am not knocking you for your experience or opinion. I am knocking you for throwing so much negativity in every post. I did not say anything about MK AT ALL. I said that Gloria is a wonderful funny lady yet somehow you jump the gun saying did you work her plan? wonder what her turn over rate is blah blah blah. Did you see a single thing about how wonderful MK is in my post? I don’t care how many SD’s are still SD’s in 3-4 years. GLORIA IS AN UPLIFTING LADY.
Ashley, so glad you are uplifted by GMB. Nobody can MAKE you feel happy, sad, mad , glad, whatever unless you let them.
For me I don’t need Gloria to feel uplifted or anything else; the deception, fake prosperity, feel good false religion touted by MK does nothing for me. I don’t care what your personal opinion is of me and I don’t need your approval to feel good about myself.
BTW, still haven’t read anything from you that touts YOUR personal experience with MK, all I see is MK speak on negativity if I DARE speak anything other than high praise for MK.
You SHOULD care about the high turnover rate in MK, it speaks of something terribly wrong that women leave MK and don’t stay with it…maybe it’s not a wonderful opportunity and maybe it’s not a way of making good money and working when you want and as little as you want. Maybe you are like the ostrich who sticks it’s head in the sand and thinks it’s hidden and protected and life is wonderful and there is always a rainbow with a pot of gold at the end of it!
I only feel sad for those who are taken in by the smoke and mirrors, just like that fake way you addressed me as “Darling Lipstick”. I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do and I wish you happiness and prosperity.
Wow such hostility…btw “Ashley my dear” is just as belittling so slow yourself. You are beyond the scope of the conversation STILL. I am really getting the impression you are just a bitter old woman! Seriously chill out. BTW i gave my personal statement yesterday under consultant stories, gave a testimony on Active Mary Kay Consultant Says PinkLighthouse.com Keeps Things in Focus for Her , and another one just cant remember so Lipstick, my dear. Go tear me to shreads on those posts as well because I know you are gonna!
Ashley, I just sent her/Lipstick the same remarks about her negativoty And inaccurate statements (it being easy). Go.for it. Stick to it. Rest regroup if needed. Much success. To -Lipstick, you are clearly Unhappy angry & defensive. Youre going back forth for what!? keep your opinions to a minimum or to yourself. Ijs. Smh.
Thank you LJ I do not know how to search for specific posts on here if it doesn’t show up on the right hand side. Is there a way to tag things I wrote on so I can keep following them?
Alll I want to say about this is we all got the exact same starter kit lipstick I’m just wondering why yours isn’t working and gllorias and all the other nsd and sd is working for them? Maybe you should look at this in a different way like positive instead of negative. I’m just sayin.
jbailey, if you read more of my posts you would see I worked my business for 8.5 years and I recruited and maintained a team of 8 for a period of time I never made the income these ladies did even though I worked very hard at it! I NEVER pushed inventory on my recruits and let them decide for themselves. And I never lied and claimed to make a 6 figure income. Fact is with deductions I never claimed a profit in 8.5 years, using REAL math, not MK MATH!
So how is it “working” for you. Are you a MK Millionaire yet? How is your positive energy doing as far as paying the bills? I’m just askin
This is my first time on this site and I read over several posts for those seeming for and against MK. It would appear as an outsider looking in that experiences are relative to the individual. I too met GMB years ago and before I knew who she was or what she had accomplished. We have a very pleasant conversation and she came across as such a nice, warm and approachable person. Yes, she does have an infectious positive attitude that puts you at ease. You would never know that she was a millionaire or anything. Later on when I did find out who she was I was very impressed. As far as the “why” she is a millionaire, I think one thing people do have to take into consideration is that she has an MBA from Harvard, actually was the Assistant Director of Admissions there as well before she joined Mary Kay. I am very sure that her educational background has something to do with her level of success. It would be unrealistic to think that most people would be millionaires just by wishing or hoping for it. She is one of the exceptions and certainly not the rule. But I think that it is awesome that she has been able to find this level of success in ANY company. I owned my own company for 15 years and as a business owner I can attest to the fact that it is difficult to run your own business whether it is through a franchise, MLM or your own business from scratch. The benefits are it’s your company and being downsized or laid off is no longer a threat. You make your schedule. Something you can’t do working for someone else. If you enjoy what you do then I can tell you that alone is worth the struggles you may face because the old adage holds true that “if you do what you love and get paid for it then you never “work” another day in your life.” Or something to that effect. LOL If a business doesn’t get you what you want them do something else. Let’s face it entreprenuership isn’t for everyone. So, do what it is in you do. Question what you success as being for you. Encourage others and be supportive, I think that is the key. If it doesn’t work for you then so be it. You are to be commended for your efforts and also for the fact that you at least gave it a shot but moreso because you realized it wasn’t for you. But if it is then do your best and there is nothing wrong with have someone to look up to that inspires you to reach beyond what you might believe you are capable of. I find it funny no one criticizes people for looking up to Ghandi, MLK or even Donald Trump as role models. It is all about who inspires you to strive for more. There is no need, nor expectation that you will become them. Dare to dream afterall.
SaraiC, You are really misinformed about the MK opportunity. It is not YOUR business. You see, when you own your own business you can sell whenever and wherever you choose, you can advertise wherever and however you choose, you can leave your business to anyone you choose when you retire or die.
Sad to say, MK controls all of the above to THEIR advantage, not yours.
As for GMB, I never said she wasn’t dynamic, a good speaker, inspiring, successful or persuasive. Make no mistake she turns on all the charm to entice others to join MK and it works and THAT is one reason why she is so successful.
There are many SD’s and NSD’s struggling, but don’t take my word for it, check out an issue of MK Ovation from 5 years ago and check GMB or any other top NSD’s commissions against what they are now. They all struggle to keep up the numbers and the facade of success. Make no mistake success in MK is all about selling the dream, recruiting and getting those recruits to order product. THAT is where the money is made, period!
A positive attitude and hard work can make anyone successful, but in MK it takes a good deal of misrepresentation and luck to do so. You make some good points in the first half of your reply, the last half sadly lacks enough good English to make sense. Good luck to you.
I am a little shocked at how everyone seems to have chip on their shoulder. Yes, I too am in MK but I can say I’ve done well without misleading anyone to make a sale or sign a recruit; this would go against the 7 Army Values that I embrace everyday. I am an Active Duty Soldier who just wanted to make some extra money while living in Hawaii (it isn’t cheap that’s for sure). I paid off a $44, 000 SUV with funds I made from Mary Kay and put a substanital dent in my student loans.
Don’t get me wrong it is hard work and I have ran into Directors who were less than professional and did not embody the “Go Give Spirit” (LOL…). There is a lot of information that is not devulged when you first sign up and I find that to be very decitful as well. All I can say is keep your eyes open and listen; everyone has a valid point and sharing the information so you don’t get taken is worth it’s weight in gold.
Amen to that. It is how you look at it. I am a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and that’s work for me. I do MK on the side, and I love it and I think and feel that I am getting paid to play :). I encourage others to pursue their dreams. The only regret we can have in life are those things we don’t dare try. Don’t blame a company for either your success or failure. You take personal responsibility, it is YOU and nobody else’s fault. MK doesn’t fail people, people fail because they don’t work it with passion. Why the turn out? And that is not just MK, in hospitals we see it too, you know why? Because people wants everything for nothing. We all want, want, want, but how many people are willing to make the sacrifices needed to reach that goal. The money is there, the work is out there, get up and look for it.
I have been out of MK for 5 years and have not talked to the person I signed up with since then which is one of the reasons I quit. I was thinking about trying again, but wanted to start out again under someone else that I met. Is this possible or do I just sign up on the website?
Hello Krista, My name is Gwen and this is my first time to this site and I was just reading all the comments that have been left. I am a MK rep. If you email me I could tell you how to get back in. I love MK and I know that everything that we do is what we make it to be. Just trust GOD
Krista, I feel like this is a long shot–I was just on here because I googled GMB and I saw the title “Movin on Up with Gloria Mayfield Banks” and clicked on it. As I read you post, I wanted to leave you my email address in case you would like to contact me, but I’m not sure if you’ll even see this post. My website (you can email me from it) is http://www.marykay.com/lizguerrero405 and I have been a consultant for about a year and a half. I was kind of glad to stumble on this page because it made me realize that perhaps part of the reason I enjoy my Mary Kay business is having a wonderful director. I’ve never felt “bugged” by her, and she has been very good about asking me questions to find out where I want to be in the business but also asking questions about my life, to help me put both into perspective. Sometimes the advice she gives me after such a discussion would actually result in her having less comission that month, but I realize now, after reading a couple posts on this website, that not all directors DO follow the golden rule. Wow. I feel both sad for those with a bad experience 🙁 and grateful to have a woman of integrity as my director. I haven’t recruited very many people, because I’ve really only talked to the people who have expressed interest in what I do, and left them with the decision. But I have such a sweet team of those that did join! I really enjoy them. If you truly are interested in starting back up, I know there have been some changed made since you’ve been out for 5 years, that I really feel make it MUCH easier to do this business! It’s been fun 🙂 But I’m more of a realistic person, so I’ll try to answer any questions to the best of my ability, and not paint a rosy-perfect, unrealistic picture. Its been great for what I’ve wanted out of it–more friends and tax deduction, and even making some extra cash. I can only speak from my experience, but there are ups and downs that I’m honest about. Anyway, hopefully you get to read this.
And thanks, people from this website, for allowing me to post that. I have only read this post about GMB so far, but I hope it was ok to say what I did.
I want to thank you so much for your positive attitude and vision! I have been in Mary Kay for 13 yrs. in my first just 2 yrs. I was in DIQ and accomplished my first month in car production! Then…I had a bad car accident. Everything in my life had to stop. Recently…My Senior Director needed someone to work on her computer and had me publish the Monday Motivators emails…a God Moment! Miracles do happen. I got motivated again!,,
I am starting over. Stronger and determined to succeed! I see a lot of comments about inventory. I DID increase my normal inventory and now I am motivated to run a business not sell a few products! I had to feel the butterflies in my stomach and know I could talk to ladies, hand out books, take names and book appointments!
The Mary Kay Cosmetics business plan does work and my dream is coming true!

1- Facts: I have over 17 years with Mary Kay, Met Mary Kay Ash and have mentored and been mentored by the most ethical, loving women I know.
2. I have a great client base and have never once coerced, manipulated or mislead anyone. GMB is a genuinely caring woman that desires to see the best in women come out. When I train Consultants, I let them know, “You don’t have to convince anyone to support you, purchase product or join your team. Women are smart and they know sincerity and quality. God is our source, not any person”
3. Don’t associate with hateful people but be an example of love and courage. They will accuse you of “being in fog” or “being fooled”, don’t argue with them. These people also do this after having a bad church experience, they curse the church as a whole. The ‘fight mode’ allows them to avoid making a positive contribution to our world. You stay peaceful and clear on your mission though they can’t resist firing at you when you stand for your belief. You stand, don’t react to the firing or vicious remarks and enjoy the journey!

How much actual profit do you make every year, Tia? Since you’re dishing out facts, why don’t you share that? I likely wouldn’t believe you because you could tell me anything, but great clients and loving women do not make a business. Businesses are to provide a service and make money. Otherwise, you have yourself a hobby and a support group.

I likely wouldn’t believe you because you could tell me anything, but great clients and loving women do not make a business. Businesses are to provide a service and make money. Otherwise, you have yourself a hobby and a support group.
Hi Krista, yes you can.
