Marie Shares Her “Creepy” Mary Kay Experience

A reader named Marie sent this message describing her experience as a guest at a Mary Kay meeting.
I appreciate your website as well as others who feel the same as I do. I was invited to a MK meeting/skin care. Was made to take off personal makeup to try MK products. I looked terrible/like a stuffed pig, colors were not for me. When the meeting leader showed me a huge case of products that she unrolled, retail to me over $200, I guess I gave her the impression I was not interested, she slammed it on the table.
I was told the next step was to have a personal meeting with the consultant who invited me there. I did meet at her home. She gave me a makeover, much like the one at the meeting. This lasted 2 hrs, when applying the makeup was only supposed to take 15 mins. Needless to say I never purchased MK products & ran as fast as I could from there. It was all very CREEPY!
P.S. There was a story in my local paper this week about a lady who was picking up her pink cadillac. She had been getting a new one every few yrs for 30 years. I guess it is possible to do that, although I wonder what the numbers actually say, & at what expense to others.
Thanks,
Marie

Do Mary Kay consultants actually win free cars?
How much Mary Kay do you have to sell to get a pink Cadillac?
One of the most asked about, and most misunderstood, features of Mary Kay is the car program. Since the beginning of the company’s car program in 1969, Mary Kay claims that over 100,000 consultants have earned the use of a Mary Kay career car or taken the optional cash compensation.
Clearing Up A Few Misconceptions
First of all, in order to earn the use of a Mary Kay car, you have to build a team. That means you have to sign up others to sell Mary Kay as well.

True or False: Pink Cadillacs are awarded to the top sellers of Mary Kay products
April 28, 2008 by L J
FALSE!
A common misconception of new Consultants, and the public in general, is that Mary Kay Inc. gives out Pink Cadillacs to members of their sales force who sell lots and lots of products.
Wrong!
You don’t earn the use of a car because you have sold thousands of dollars of product to customers. The only way you earn a car, or indeed move up in the company, is to get enough of your new recruits and current team members to place orders for product with the company. Period.
So while those women driving those pink cars are good sales people, it isn’t because they sold a bunch of moisturizer.
It’s because they sold the “vision” of Mary Kay, the company. They persuaded the people they recruited into the company that the only way to be really successful is to have a “full wagon” of products, usually several thousands of dollars worth.
