I don’t agree at all with the principals behind MK. They are selling you products that aren’t any better than anyone else’s. If you can buy the products at half price, they are only making half of that, which means the makeup is only worth half of that. It is insane how much the directors haggle you. Mary Kay is a joke in my opinion. I am selling all of my inventory and want nothing to do with the company again.

I am currently active in Mary Kay and have been for almost 2 years. While I enjoy looking through your site for the stories of why people have gotten out of Mary Kay and made my job so much easier, I also find it entertaining to see your take on things.
It’s all about perception, not deception. More of, glass half full, half empty really. If you are willing to WORK, if you are really ready to run a BUSINESS, then you’ll probably be ready to succeed. However, if you would rather WORK for someone ELSE, and answer to someone else, and let someone else take responsibility for everything that you do, then you are ready to make someone ELSE successful.
To the consultants that have stopped selling, I say thank you. It makes my job much easier.

I was wondering if anyone who maintains this site has ever been a part of the direct selling industry. I am a well-educated 35 year old woman who became a director with Mary Kay and earned my first company car in seven months and have been able to leave my corporate job. The comments I read about the Mary Kay car program made me laugh. Every company car is always a lease car whether you are in corporate America or otherwise. I couldn’t even get a turkey in Corporate America much less a car that I get to use and pay no insurance or repairs on, and you don’t have to accept the car. You can always take the cash compensation instead. If you know of anywhere that actually GIVES people cars let me know. I’d like to get in on that. Also, yes, Seminar is coming up but I have not asked even one of my girls to attend. I just provided them with the information and they make their own decisions about attending. Of course the designer handbags and other raffles are fun, but I realize many people cannot, or do not want to go to Seminar. That is their choice. It seems as if the people who maintain this site have a bad taste in their mouth regarding Mary Kay. That’s too bad. It’s not for everyone, but I never been lied to or mislead about what I was getting into and I love it.

I love the poll question about whether or not I knew about the inventory expenditure I would be “expected” to make.
That would be a big, whopping NO. I signed my agreement, la de da, was anxiously awaiting my kit and I got a call from a woman I had never met (the Director), who was way across the country asking all kinds of personal questions about my finances. What? She asked me if I could fund a $1800.00 order and I said yes, but I didn’t want to spend that much or go into debt to start this business. I got the line about it not being debt, but being an investment. Yeah, right.
Then, a couple of days later my recruiter called to ask me if I had placed an order because it showed that I had on her intouch site. I looked and the Director had put in a $1800.00 order for me. I went ballistic!!! My recruiter talked me down and said she was always having to do damage control for the Director. I gave the Director a piece of my mind and canceled the order. Then I waited a while and placed a $400.00 retail order. LOL I had actually forgotten about that little tidbit until I read the poll. Live and learn and then leave (MK).

My opinion of Mary Kay the company is — the company has been pulling the wool over women’s eyes for EONS!! Someone should go in there and rip corporate headquarters to shreds! However, I do like some of their products, and I will be the first one to admit that yeah, I may be a little hypocritical in that area. But come on! The amount of money that you need to spend, spend, spend in relation to the teeny bit of money you receive in return for the hours of hard work?? I think the big wigs in Dallas are full of crapola!!

I too felt so foolish when I started looking around at web sites after I joined mk and placed a whopping inventory order. When I found this site it was so refreshing to see that I wasn’t alone! Pink Lighthouse was also the place that helped me send all of that product right back. This site debunked a lot of myths that your director will feed you if you try and send product back. Thank you Thank you!!

I was looking for some HONEST information regarding sending my product back to Mary Kay. I love your website. I felt like a complete sucker until I did some digging and realized that it’s more of a 20% sucker, 80% manipulator situation that I got tangled up into with my ex so-called “director”. Keep in mind, after I made my initial inventory purchase, I got zero direction from this chick. Thanks for “Light”ing the way!
