Allure’s Best of Beauty 2008: What?! No Mary Kay Products?!
Written by L J on November 9, 2008 – 11:51 am -Every year, dozens of editors at Allure magazine spend months testing thousands of beauty products. This year’s list contains 182 products that the editors deemed the best.
And there’s not a single Mary Kay product on the list.
What the heck is going on here! No products from the company who for years identified themselves as America’s Best Selling Brand?! You’ve got to be kidding me.
Oh sure…you could use the excuse that Allure only chooses products that are sold in retail outlets, not from direct sales companies.
And then you’ll notice that AVON made the list. Oops!

The “Direct Sales = Better Products and Service” Myth
Written by L J on November 8, 2008 – 1:37 pm -How many times have you heard that Mary Kay products are so much better because of the superior ingredients and personalized service?
Lots of MLMs promote the belief that somehow their products are better because they aren’t available in stores. Because you get personal service that you don’t get in retail environments.
And that direct sales is THE way to go when it comes to marketing products. In fact, it’s the wave of the future.
But I find it all hard to swallow.

For Those Who Prefer Music While Making Up
Written by L J on November 7, 2008 – 11:01 am -Check out this beautiful beauty set:
World Domination Tour All Access Backstage Beauty Collection
It’s housed in a musical jewelry adorned with a sleek blond doll and plays “La Vie en Rose.”
Limited Edition — $42.00
Another great alternative to MK. I think any teen on your list would rather have this than a lame Velocity set or an $18 double-ended lip gloss!

Want to Give Some REALLY Neat Beauty Gifts This Xmas? Hint: They AREN’T Mary Kay!
Written by L J on November 6, 2008 – 8:02 pm -I always laughed at the holiday gift suggestions put out every year by Mary Kay.
They really tried, but let’s face it…all they did was pair some of their regular products together and call it a gift set. Sure, there were limited-edition products, but they just never seemed like that much fun. And innovative? Please!
So this year, I thought I’d throw out some suggestions for some really fun beauty gifts that I think any gal would be happy to receive.

Did Mary Kay Change the Eyeliner Formula?
Written by L J on October 28, 2008 – 10:59 am -It’s amazing to me that some visitors here think this is the Mary Kay Inc site. Go figure!
But from time to time I get emails from these people, asking questions or making comments.
I received one of these yesterday from a woman who is unhappy with Mary Kay eyeliner:

How Much Does the Typical Mary Kay Customer Order in a Year?
Written by L J on October 24, 2008 – 2:10 pm -When I was in Mary Kay, I often heard directors state the fact that the average woman spends $500 a year on cosmetics.
Notice they didn’t say that the average woman was buying MK products exclusively, but those that wanted to hear that heard it, and directors didn’t try to discourage consultants from planting that $500 figure in their head as what their average customer would spend in a year.

A Father Wants to Know: Are Mary Kay Products “The Best”?
Written by L J on October 17, 2008 – 5:01 pm -I received this message from Wayne, an obviously caring father:
I’ve always been told MK products are the best. I’d like someone to answer if I should be paying$300 to give my teen girls ‘the best’?
So help the man out.
What do you think: Are Mary Kay products the best? Why or why not?
