Just a Few Bad Apples

Written by L J on August 3, 2008 – 1:07 pm -

We’ve often heard the response from active Mary Kay consultants that bad experiences in Mary Kay can be blamed on a few “bad” directors or consultants in the company.

I finally realized that there’s a communication problem here.

The women who have had unpleasant experiences in Mary Kay aren’t saying that the directors and other consultants they encountered are necessarily bad people. It’s their behavior, the required Mary Kay speak and attitude, that is horrible.

There are more than “just a few bad apples” in Mary Kay, and they share many of the following behaviors:

  • pushing consultants to spend more on inventory, Seminar and other events than they wanted to
  • asking consultants to give up a Saturday morning with their family for a recruiting brunch

A Little Taste of Seminar

Written by L J on July 29, 2008 – 11:35 am -

Are you sad because you weren’t walking around Dallas in July’s 100+ heat wearing a “sharp” wool blazer?

Well wipe those tears, missy!

Here’s a little snippet of all the excitement and inspiration you missed at Seminar this year, complete with the final candlelight (pen light) ceremony.

Now can someone explain to me why those not-so-sharp guys in this video are dancing ?

Agreed Protective Order Filed in Mary Kay Lawsuit Against Touch of Pink

Written by L J on July 28, 2008 – 1:11 pm -

An Agreed Protective Order was filed in the Mary Kay Inc. vs Touch of Pink Cosmetics case on 14 July 2008.

What the heck does that mean?

Who did Touch of Pink Cosmetics buy MK products from? We may never know.

Well, the protective order means that both Mary Kay and Touch of Pink may keep certain “trade secrets” and other information about how they run their businesses confidential. This is designed to keep information from falling in the hands of your competition.

Interesting, but not unusual.

But it means you may not get answers to some questions you had. For instance, there has been discussion here recently about whether or not Touch of Pink Cosmetics got some of its inventory from current Mary Kay consultants.

Mary Kay Lipstick Sales Up In Tough Economy

Written by L J on July 21, 2008 – 9:53 am -

See? Just like your Mary Kay director told you.

Even when the economy is iffy, women buy lipstick.

Mary Kay Inc. reports that lipstick sales for the first six months of 2008 is up 60% over the same period in 2007.

“That tells me that more women are buying lipstick during these tough economic times,” said Rhonda Shasteen, Mary Kay’s senior vice president of corporate brand strategy.

“A woman needs something positive to brighten her day, and a $10 or $15 lipstick will do that,” she said.

Seminar Escalator Accident Sends Consultants Flying

Written by L J on July 21, 2008 – 9:13 am -

A worker at the Dallas Convention Center suddenly hit the reverse switch on an escalator carrying Mary Kay consultants to lunch on Friday, 18 July, injuring at least 10.

Crayton Webb, spokesperson for Mary Kay Inc., described the women involved in the incident as positive and upbeat.

“That is indicative of the Mary Kay women,” said Mr. Webb

Oh brother.

How incompetent does a worker have to be to reverse the direction of an escalator when there are people on it? Makes you wonder if he just wanted to get his jollies watching these women topple.

Hmmm…how “positive and upbeat” will these women seem if they file a lawsuit for negligence?
