How were you recruited? Tell us all the details.
It all started in July of 2016. My friend announced she was starting her MK buisness and I innocently told her I would order a mascara. Then I made the mistake to say “hey we just paid of $20,000 in debt in 6 months” She said she would love to “talk to me about Mary Kay” so I agreed, we chatted for a couple of minutes, she told me how she could make all this money, and I could too-and if I would be willing to just talk to her director, because she needs to listen in, to help train her for directorship. I agreed, and talked to her director, who now I know is one of the biggest fake people I have ever spoke too. We only talked on the phone, and she told me how in 6 months I could leave my “J.O.B.” and be my own boss. Well at the time I was working for a company with a questionable future, and I thought “sure why not?” So, I told her I would talk to my husband. My husband was not on board. We were paying off debt, not buying $100 of makeup. So I brushed it off, and by the next month my friend and her director were hounding me. I would get a text saying “I only need 10 more people to make it to DIQ”, and another saying “You know you want to do this”. She then sent me a video to watch, and she would send me a free eyeshadow if I replied with the answers to the questions asked. I did (never got my free eyeshadow). So I said “ok fine, let me talk to my husband again” because really, what could it hurt? $100 and potentially make $1500? My husband still was not on board, so I brushed her off again. Then on the eve of August 30 I got the text from her director, how badly my friend needed me. I showed it to my husband and he said “well if its only $100, go for it”. So I did. Then I got the inventory call. I couldn’t spend another $225. But she made it sound like I couldn’t start selling without it. So, I did. My husband is still mad at me. And that is how it all began.
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
The day I saw the post from my director who had claimed to “retire her husband”-she posted how happy she was that he was home from work. That made me realize that she was lying about a lot more, and I started doing more research.
What are you doing now?
Working in my career that pays me consistently and I get benefits. I also got a promotion and raise, and didn’t have to beg my friends to shell out $325 to do so. We ended up moving into a bigger house, I see my kids more, and spend more time with my husband now that I am not trying to book a party.
Feel free to include any additional comments here:
I personally think I would have done more or better if my initial inventory was stuff I would have used. Instead I let my director pick things that she knew would “fly off the shelves” funny thing is I STILL have it and will be sending it all back with my 90% return.
Here is the other thing. Please do not ever try to guilt someone into signing up. You can give them the facts and say how it will be great but don’t belittle them when they have to work a regular 9-5 or tell them they are not giving enough to MK.

I absolutely agree! Belittling someone for their 9-5?! Absolutely not!
My Mom has been with MKay for 21 years and I love her Director (who is the FURTHEST from pushy or negative)… my Mom absolutely adores her working women customers… they order the most and host parties bc they generally work with other women who purchase skin care, etc! I am appalled at how pushy and negative some of these Consultants and Directors have been described and can say WHOLEheartedly that I (thankfully) have only met 1 Director in my life who was beyond unpleasant like some described on here. My advice would be to tell the negative, pushy, aggressive ones that you are “not interested” or whatever applies, and if they keep on, ssy you’ll be reporting them to the company if their behavior continues! They should all live by the Golden Rule! 1. God 2. Family 3. Business. Period.

Curious who your director was. I think my daughter was scammed by the same director or it is a line they give everyone.
