Met my future director while getting my oil changed. Didn’t realize it at the time, or during my “recruitment”, but this director did everything wrong. Still I joined because she told me I’d get all my MK products for half price. She didn’t include the part about having to purchase so much per month to qualify for the half price. A fact I came to find out she was really good at – not telling the whole the truth.
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
The only good thing my director did was introduce me to another dynamite director whose meetings I could attend. I didn’t live anywhere near my own director and, in the beginning, really wanted to make this a success. I met a lot of nice people and learned a lot through my substitute director. My own director was a complete loser and had no interest in helping me out.
What are you doing now?

There are good people in Mary Kay but there are a lot of bad ones who are only looking out for themselves and their bottom line. Once I was recruited, my director was gone. She really was no help at all. Which explains why she has never had any of her numerous recruits go on to be a director. I came to realize my director had a really nasty side to her and it came out many times, frequently in large Mary Kay gatherings. My negative experience with her started when I was recruited. I didn’t know what to order so I asked for her help. She ordered $3,600 of inventory for me. Most of which I never sold. But she got her bonus off of it. Found out later no one starting out should ever order that much inventory. Overall, I would have been better off never having heard of Mary Kay. Wasted a lot of money and time.
