Here’s a story submitted by a Mary Kay consultant in Canada.
Are You Active or Inactive? Active but desperately want out
Amount of Initial Inventory You Purchased: 1800
How were you recruited? Tell us all the details.
A friend of mine at work was a director in Mary Kay and took me to several dinner and makeover events. At the time, my father was dying of cancer and it was the lowest I’ve felt in my life. I thought the events were fun and that I had made some new friends. I bought a ton of product and my friend suggested I become a consultant to get the discount; I agree saying that I had no intention of actively selling other than to friends. Three seminars, two career conferences and a multitude of events later, I want out. I kept telling them how much I hated calling people on the phone to get them to events. I’m a recruiters best dream— I’m outgoing and have a ton of contacts both professional and personal. I could never get over having to talk about MK to everyone I know.
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
I did learn a lot about myself and business. I did meet some nice people in MK.
What are you doing now?
I’m trying to decide if I stay a personal use consultant or get my inventory back to them. I had a Hugh sale in February with up to 75% off and I still didn’t sell the old stuff. I feel I was duped into buying stuff that would never sell as I was told that you can’t sell from an empty store. In the three years that I’ve done this no one has bought any of the fragrances I have.

Is there anyone in the province if Ontario that can advise me? I’d really appreciate it!!!
