I had registered at David’s Bridal for my wedding dress the previous spring, not thinking I was going to be hounded by different venders. Well, I had just had my first child on Aug. 3 2012 and got a phone call the next week about Mary Kay and having a facial. I thought to myself, that would be really nice to get fixed up and look nice. I mean, I had just had a baby and was worn out. Well, I was skeptical and just wanted to make sure this wasn’t some crazy lady coming to my house to take my baby away (I was obviously a new mother) so I called David’s Bridal to make sure this was legit. She came, did a facial, no big deal. Asked if she could come back to do another “bridal look” on me and of course, I agreed. I had a guest, got $15 off my order at my next facial and BAM…she starts telling me how I could be a stay at home mom and make good money etc…well I fell for it. I was a new mom, who wished to stay home. I was told I would sell more if I bought inventory. I went to the extent of borrowing money against my car loan. I sold a lot right off the bat, thinking “I can do this! This is great!…” Then the three month mark came around; I was back to work at my full-time job, planning a wedding, holidays… I had no time to sell, I was being hounded again by MK to come to this event…sell this much and get this dinky thing here…I was crushed. I love the products but I just couldn’t find the time or money to continue.
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
I have met some really great people. I do really think that it is for some people to excel at. I mean, my director is a wonderful woman and I am so glad to have met her through all of this. She was so helpful and encouraging. I will miss her if we don’t make contact anymore. I reached Star Consultant once…that felt great but I know it’s just because I had a big first order. But I did have multiple $500-600 parties there for a while.
What are you doing now?
I am returning my inventory I have left to get my car loan back down so I can refinance it and have a lower monthly payment.

I do not regret doing Mary Kay…Like I said, I love their products. I will continue to use them but I have to order them through a family member. If I was not a mother and working full time at a place with great benefits, I could have done very well in Mary Kay.
