How were you recruited? Tell us all the details.
I was recruited by a co-worker after coming back from a vacation at a resort where a consultant was facialing residents. I had so much fun and asked her about being a consultant. Like we are all taught, she referred me back to my consultant to see about becoming a consultant. I was scared to death for about a week but decided to make the plunge. My director placed my first order. I thought I would not be able to sell what she ordered. However, my adopted director taught us that we will sell those things you demonstrate. Sure enough, I sold what I had people try. To Tara and any of you who have a lot of product and you have not moved it. Find a tax consultant who TRULY knows how to write off deductions for a MLM business and look at your attitude. If any of you sign up with any other MLM company you will QUICKLY realize how Mary Kay Cosmetics bends backwards to help their sales field and leaders to be successful without costing them unnecessary business expenses. For instance, charging us a SMALL fee for shipping of $8.50 per ORDER, not item, no matter how much is in the order. Also, designing our very own BEAUTIFUL web site at a minimal cost of less than $5 a month. If you are not moving your product, I suggest looking inside to see what is stopping you. There would not be so many successful women in this company if their product was not high quality and their marketing plan was not superior. Anyone can make a lot of money in any company if they are willing to be trained and also have the same mindset of other successful people. Also, if your tax person says you can’t get a lot of money back on your taxes from your Mary Kay business, check the allowed deductions yourself. I was able to get over $1,000 each year back due to my business. AGAIN, check your attitude. You will most likely have a problem with ANY business venture because you have a negative attitude and are not willing to work your business.
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
I have many memorable moments, but I was very proud of myself when I sold over $30K one year and got in the Queen’s Court of Sales. It was very exciting to walk across the stage and get my diamond and garnet ring (worth over $500 wholesale) and go to the party. I have many very nice prizes from just “doing my job” and consistently working a little bit every day.
What are you doing now?
I am still making some money each month from my customer base and getting commission checks from my team even though my health has made it almost impossible to work.

I absolutely LOVE Mary Kay, the legacy she left for us and the opportunity she created for us. Mary Kay herself wrote me an encouraging letter back in 1996 when my first husband was dying of cancer. The=company and its staff always help me out when I have a problem and they even give when it costs them money even though they are not responsible for the unfortunate incident.
