How were you recruited? Tell us all the details.
I was recruited by a woman in my neighborhood. She was very casual about it and I didn’t feel pushed at all. She gave me a ton of samples and I really liked them. I’ve always used a mish mash of department store brands from MAC to Trish McEvoy, Chanel, Bobbi Brown & more. I loved how my skin felt with the Timewise samples, the mascara didn’t smear at all, and the TW Illuminating Foundation was great.
I decided to consider consulting for a brief moment in time, because I thought it would be a great way to the products I was impressed with, and gifts, etc at great prices. The 50% off sounded great, no quotas, blah, blah, blah.
I have a full-time career I love, and my interest was only to make a little extra money. However, I have some business experience and decided to do my due dilligence. I spent time on www.pinktruth.com as well as this site and many others such as this one here. I found way too many warnings, horror stories, and red flags. In addition, I also checked ebay and found the prices to be 30-40% off retail, with free shipping and no sales tas. In my mind, why on earth would anyone buy products from a consultant at retail price when they can buy them so easily and for so much less on ebay?
My research took me a few hours and I was convinced this was not any opportunity I should touch. It just doesn’t make sense from a business perspective. I’m not afraid of pushy directors because of my own personality and confidence. I simply looked at it as a business opportunity and found it to be flawed. BUT I DID GO ON EBAY AND BUY A BUNCH OF COOL PRODUCTS FOR GREAT PRICES!!! Best of both worlds, avoiding the company, but still enjoying the products at a good price.
Thank you so much to everyone for sharing your experiences with this company. I would encourage people to do the same due dilligence before deciding to sign up. After all, when buying a home we have a “buyer investigation” period where we do inspections, read reports, check sex off databases and can back out if the deal looks bad. Do the same thing before jumping into any business!!
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
Yes, getting products I sampled and liked, on ebay for great prices w/ no shipping or tax.
What are you doing now?
I’m in education and formerly real estate.
