How were you recruited?
I have gone to MK parties since I was a kid with my mother. About 4 years ago my aunt who is like my big sister signed up and since I still loved the product I helped her in every way I could and I agreed to do an interview for her from her debut party. After I listened to the information I said thanks but no thanks I will buy everything from you though! Well my aunt since stopped selling because she wasn’t all into it. While I was in college I worked at Radio Shack and after I graduated, I was excited to only have one job. My BIG PEOPLE job. Then came the BIG PEOPLE bills! HA. For about a year after college I worked my full time job as a buyer and my part time job at Radio Shack who began cutting commisions and cutting bonuses until I was pretty much working for mimimun wage. I had so much animosity built about about working at Radio Shack that as I was walking into the mall one day before my shift I call my aunt and asked her for her director’s phone number (since I met her at my aunt’s debut) and proceeded to walk into my store and gave my boss my 2 weeks notice.
Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.
I have a lot of experiences that it would take a long time to share them all. I have had positive experiences and negative ones. I started working this business for a few hundred bucks to help with my enormous student loans. (That was easy for me) Then I did get caught up in the hype and all of a sudden wanted a car. I came close to earning the car but didn’t make it. I have 5 people on my team currently. Only 2 are consistantly active and I don’t mind. The girls on my team have fun and use it for spare cash as I do. None of us are in debt for the inventory we have. I am honest with my girls with how things can be done. If I earn more money with commisions awesome it just goes into savings anyways I don’t push for more recruits.
One of my best experiences is sitting with 1 of the (recent) million dollar directors and hearing about how it took her 2 times to actually become a director. I know not many people actually make it to the top but I am not conserned with that. It is nice to hear “top” people struggle too (health, family, and Mk wise).
What are you doing now?
I am still working my full time job as a buyer and selling MK for fun. I just sold enough this week to have spending money for my weekend get-a-way. No I didn’t hound customers. They called me to reorder. They know I will keep what they want on hand for them but if they want something new they will have to wait a week or 2 they don’t mind because I am as honest and upfront as I can be. I hate being con’d and I refuse to be a sneaky sales person. I think thats about all!

I feel like I am about to be attacked but I would love to talk more about my experiences with everyone.
