How were you recruited? Tell us all the details.
Filled out questionnaire at my kids daycare. Lady called a week later said I won a free facial (yeah right) and a $20 gift certificate. She wanted me to throw a party probably to torture other people! But most of my friends don’t have the money to buy a stick of gum let alone make-up. So I went to her house and she gave me the demonstration and the bs about how much fun, money blah blah blah. I said that I did not want to sell I just wanted someone to buy the product from. I love the product just don’t want to commit to something. Plus I am not the best people person. Talking in front of a group of people scares me to death and I am not agressive I was raised to know that No means NO! She kept going on and on and so she would let me leave I agreed to take some books and show them to some people. I had no intentions of doing so just wanted to get away from her.

Do you have a memorable experience from your time in Mary Kay? If so, please tell us about it.

The torture that followed me for the next 2 month!!! The lady blew up my cell phone with calls about have I sold anything and wanting me to to come to her meetings. Probably so the other vultures could pounce on me. It got so bad she badgered me and bothered me day and night I told her NO NO NO NO NO!!! But she obviously did not know what the damn word meant! It got so bad I had to change my phone number. Then she shows up at my home wanting to talk to me about the opportunity of a lifetime that I am passing up. I said NO for about the 1,000th time. She just could not get the hint. She had her director call me and I told her the same thing that I had told the other lady she got the point unfortunately Lady 1 still did not get it. I had finally had enough and I had the police tell her to leave me alone. Thats right I called the police and they said that it was considered harrassment and stalking and if she did not leave me alone they would have no other choice but to arrest the bitch. She got the point

What are you doing now?
Working the same job I was when my nightmare began and a single mom to two beautiful children!!!!

Additional Comments:
I still love the product and wish I could find someone that I could buy from without the pressure to sell!!!

So sorry you had to deal with that. Everyone handles clients different ways, but it’s these types of experiences that I feel gives Mary Kay a bad name sometimes. I, for one am not a pushy consultant– I show others the skin care and whatever else they want to see and chances are, they will fall in love and purchase them on their own time. You can tell right off the bat if someone is even on the fence about the thought to join, and if I sense that they really aren’t into it– that’s it. No more questions. If you still are looking for a consultant to buy from with no pressure and no prodding, just let me know. I also have a facebook page where I have special weekly sales. :) Feel free to send me an email if you like through my Mary Kay site– (www.marykay.com/nataliebooher) I’d like to give you the pressure free experience that you and so many other fabulous ladies out there are looking for.

I did sign up and my husband was very upset about it. he told me if I wanted to lose money on something I could do anything but Mary Kay. I can’t send my kit back. I guess I will use some of the product. I get two sets of cleansers in there. Do you know whattype skin you have? I would be happy to send it to you. PLease let me now. Trust me I am not in the business and just want to try to sell some of it to recoup the cost of the kit if you know what I mean. My email is bonheb23@gmail.com if you would like to contact me.

You can return you kit if it is unopened for a 90% buy back within 30 days of joining.  Just call Mk and tell them you are returning the kit for repurchase and ask them where to ship it to.

  5. If you just want to buy product with no pressure, please feel free to visit my site at http://www.marykay.com/scox-pereira and order.  I offer free shipping.  I do have several individuals that order off and on as needed and I have never once spoken to them.  They expressed right away they love the product but have no interest beyond that and I respect that.

When I was a customer, I shopped around until I found the right consultant that I liked and wanted to do business with.  I recruited myself and have been a consultant for 18 years.  I operate my business on my terms and my goals.  I don’t allow my director to determine my career path.  I have recruited and I do so honestly.  I want happy customers and happy consultants on my team.  If they are not happy, I remind them that their are other options and I don’t really care – I will work with you either way.  If you don’t like the products, no big deal, if you don’t like the business, no big deal.  I do and I don’t need anyone’s approval or permission.  If someone is on the fense about a product, I won’t sell it to them – if I have a sample, I give that instead.  Try it and then let me know.  I focus on my relationship with my customers and team members.   I never want to tear down bridges.  We all are grown and need to make choices based on our individual circumstances and there is no room for “pushy”.   And, I really don’t understand why people are so dissappointed when they meet a “bad” MK lady.  There are bad waitresses, bad cashiers, bad drivers, etc…. not everybody is cut out to be a great MK lady!  Make your choices and live with them.  Educate yourself and ask a lot of questions.  Live your life with your head held high!

If your director is really doing her MK best, she will steer you to going into DIQ if you have a lick of potential and look halfway decent. That’s the WHOLE point of MK: recruit, move up your recruits, move up.

True, there is disappointing service in every area of business. What people find so irritating about MK consultants is their unrelenting pushy-ness which comes from the rah-rah and recruiting push.

Glad you’ve made your MK venture a positive one.

I gotta say, I find that hard to beleive. The police wouldn’t say they would arrest someone due to harassment OR stalking unless there was a threat against your person and even then there would be several requirements that would have to be met and also didn’t you say you changed your phone number? How did she keep calling you? This is a little extreme and I am pulling the doubt card. Sure people don’t get hints but c’mon. That’s ridiculous.

I’m with Jill, I know there are pushy consultants out there but there’s something about this that doesn’t sound quite right.

I think you ladies may be confused.  It is illegal to use your phone to harass people and you can be prosecuted for doing doing so.  The fact that the consultant was told point blank not to call and she continued to do so constitutes telephone harassment.  Not to mention the fine she could receive if the person she is calling is on the “no call” registry.

  10. I am SOOOOOOOOO glad to come across this website!  It’s like our very own MK Consultants Support Group =) I have only been a consultant for 7 months now, but lately I have been very discouraged with my outcome.   I started out “ON FIRE” – very enthusiastic and scheduled several parties immediately.  However, my efforts resulted in minimal dividends.  My director/recruiting consultant advised me to purchase all of this inventory and now I have all of this product and no $$ to show for it!!  I have a website, but I haven’t generated much business there either.

See, my family just relocated from out-of-state.  We came here not knowing a single soul, and I haven’t been working, so the only people I have been able to get to come to my parties have been other parents, and neighbors thus far.  Most of my friends and family are in Canada and apparently they can’t even register on my website or place orders.  They have to email me their orders and then I have to pay extra (what would be my profit) to ship it to them and with the customs policies, it takes a while for the product to get there.  Also news to me, was that we can’t recruit people in Canada either, so much of my “potential business/clients” has been cut drastically.

I must admit, the thought of returning at least some of my product has crossed my mind, but I- like many others – am afraid that I won’t have to opportunity to try again at a later date (when I actually get to know some more people).  I appreciate the business and all that it offers women, but it’s difficult to build a client base when you are starting over.  Plus the family could really use the money now….

Shawniece, I began in February and my website had people viewing it because I put it out there on Facebook but other than that, no hits no buyers, I wonder if that is a scam too?

I don’t think it is fair that we can not open a kiosk at the mall, a small store, or sell in a beauty salon.
Yes it is competition but hey it is already there.
My recruiter said she would give me 60.00 in free product for jumping these hurdles before I joined and like a dummy I did  but I have never received it from her.

I have 300.00 in inventory now and have not sold a darn thing.

So if it were truly YOUR business, why couldn’t you market the products the way you wanted to? Why couldn’t you offer them in a small store, etc? The answer is that it ISN’T your business, it’s Mary Kay’s. You’re just representing the company and peddling their products for them for cheap, so they don’t have to pay you benefits like they would if you were an employee.

  13. Hello, I am sorry to  hear that you had such a horrible experience with our company. This was obviously an issue with the consultant. People like that have no business being with the company because it leaves an extremely negative impression on all of us. Her sales director should have instructed her to leave you alone right away. She should have just been happy with you as a customer, because of course where are with without customers? I am happy to hear that you enjoy our products however. If you have not found a consultant so far that you are pleased with you can order from me any time. My website is not set up for pay just yet but let me know if you are interested. Either way, I hope all your future experiences with Mary Kay are positive.

  14. P.S.  The reason you are not able to open a store and sell the product this way, is because while it is your business, you are still working for the Mary Kay company. They are founded on the golden rule and do not allow selling clients who belong to someone else. This would be “stealing a client”.  Mary Kay Ash created the company to be this way and when you sign up you are representing the entire company, not just  yourself. That is why it is so terrible to have such a bad experience with a consultant.

  15. My advice as a consultant is not to buy inventory unless you are already flourishing in the business… I know they want you to buy inventory, but that’s where most people seem to lose money. Maybe buy a couple small extra’s here and there mascara’s or whatever, they don’t cost us much. And if you don’t sell them after a while, you can use them yourself!

Haha, LJ, I find this funny.  If you have been following my posts then you know I’ve been wondering why they don’t bug me.   Now, I know I’m smart…not a rocket scientist, but smart, and I’m not OOOgly, but I’m a pleasantly plump mom of three….!!!! that explains it….lol.

LOL, to funny. Yes this does happen! I am a consultant and run my business my way and it works or me, however, my director drove me to tears with the inventory scam. I believe when you said you had to call the police. I see it all the time. After I weeded through all of the hype and stress, I have enjoyed selling to a customer base and re orders.  The one that blew my mind and ran me away from the training meetings is when one of the prizes for a contest was to win 30 minutes of your directors time. I mean come on, if  I was a “boss” per say, I would be honored to spend time with my employees. So selling MK can be successful if you can find the way that works for you, however, if you listen to your directors, you would just end up like the consultant that was your nightmare. *Link deleted by Admin* – for stress free buying.
