Your Name: Jen
Date Joined MK: July 2009
When Left MK or Still Active?: Active
Initial Inventory Purchased: 600 dollars or less
How were you recruited?: I had been looking to work at MAC or Sephora since makeup is one of my loves, but never got hired. Then, I met a consultant at Eat N Park, and knew it was a sign hehe.
Memorable experience you had in MK: My first party… I only had 2 women there besides my mother and sister, and I still made tons and tons of money! And I got to do what I love- beauty and make up!
What did you learn from MK?: To be responsible and stop procrastinating in everything I do.
What are you doing now?: Trying to sell as much as I can so I can put in my first wholesale order. I hope I can sell 600 dollars of product, but I might have to do $400 wholesale. Either way, I wasn’t pushed into paying anything, my recruiter even paid for my starter kit because I couldn’t afford it! And gave me a whole satin hands kit to use, too! She’s awesome!
Additional Comments: So far, everything has been awesome for me in Mary Kay. I read other stories on here, and couldn’t believe that people would treat others that way… however, I don’t think that has anything to do with Mary Kay in general, it just has to do with the individuals you are dealing with. If someone is a bad person in general, they are a bad person whether they work for Mary Kay or not. Luckily, all the women I work with are so helpful and understand my situation as far as not being able to afford orders on my own. So I am selling my way into making my first wholesale order. Wish me luck!

Jen,
Please be aware that the set up for MK is the same and the people you believe to have your best interest are also making commission on your orders. I certainly hope your recruiter and SD are different from so many we have seen. Sell first, then order only what you need! Best of luck!
Jen,
You keep pluggin along. What difference does it make if the person that is helping you is making commission it doesn’t come out of your pocket and is a bonus for training our team to succeed. I have been in Mary Kay for 30 years and have had a very positive experience. I work part time and buy inventory as I sell it keeping a small stock for reorders. Just practice good money management and you will be fine. Good luck and hang in there – gon’t give up.
Peggy,
You are so correct. It doesn’t matter that if the people are making a commission off of you 0r not. Not everyone is the same. It angers me when people make a blanketed statements because not everyone is the same. I feel so sorry for all the people on this site that talk about the bad experiences they’ve had. People can be very selfish and not care about you in the process of making themselves great. That is not true of all people.
I’ve only been in MK for a short time and I’m having a blast. I’ve spent more then I should have, only becasue of my silly choices. No one pushes me. My director lost her Cadie and she still doesn’t push us to get it back.
