A Father Wants to Know: Are Mary Kay Products “The Best”?

I received this message from Wayne, an obviously caring father:

I’ve always been told MK products are the best. I’d like someone to answer if I should be paying$300 to give my teen girls ‘the best’?

So help the man out.

What do you think:  Are Mary Kay products the best? Why or why not?

Imo, no Mary Kay products are not the best.  Not for teenagers anyways.  I think that their skin is just developing and is going through a lot of changes.  They need a product that is going to help them through the change.  I honestly don’t think that anyone needs 300.00 worth of skin care products.  Even if you can afford it.  When they get a job to afford those products then they can buy what they want.  Until then I feel they should use over the counter skin care products.  There are a lot of products that are great and affordable for everyone!  Hope this helps!

$300 how often?  For how many girls?  Is it just skin care, or full make-up?  What would they be buying instead?  MK isn’t the best or worst, nor the cheapest or most expensive.  The best skin care line is the one that works the best for an individual.

I would have to agree with what Trixie said. Mary Kay works for some people and not for others. It worked for me for about a few months and then I had to switch to something else. Would I buy a teenager $300 worth of products? No. Their skin will change quicker than they can use all of that up. 1 month it might work like a dream and the next it could make them break out. If you want to try MK, do it in small amounts so you dont waste that much money in case it does break the girls out.

I agree with all they have said.  My son tried it but it only work for two months, then he had to switch.  You could start with basic skin care, but $300.  I don’t think it will be wise to spend that much.

I was not happy when I tried MK products.  My experience left me feeling them to be overpriced and under-sized.  There are a few great finds- like the concealer and Oil Mattifier, but I haven’t been happy with anything else I’ve tried.

I always had problem skin- that is until I tried Jane Iredale mineral makeup foundation.  It literally transformed my skin.  With their changing skin- I bet it will work wonders.  Try the liquid minerals foundation and powder foundation compact.  http://www.JaneIredale.com.  I’ve been very pleased with Revlon cosmetics, and they are often much cheaper than MK.

They will have great skin and beautiful faces- for MUCH less than $300!

As previously stated, the best skin care line is the one that works for the individual.  There is no line that is perfect for everyone.  One great thing about MK there it offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee.  If you are unhappy with any purchase, they will replace it or refund your money.  You won’t find that guarantee with every company, nor will you find other companies bringing the products to you.

I do believe that Mary Kay cosmetics are the best.  But, that is my opinion.  I would like to think that everyone agrees with my opinion but they need to make their own decision.  I know that MK has a teen line that may be great for the daughters.  Everyone has their own skin and need to use what works best for them.  Ask for a Look book and check the prices. $300.00 is more than just cleanser and moisturizer.

Mary Kay has a great teen line cleanser is $10.00 moisturizer is $12.00. Teen skin changes a lot making the Mary Kay guarantee perfect for this situation. Skin changes call your consultant and she will bring over the new product. You will have a  hard time finding a store that will take it back used at anytime. Let alone have them bring it to you. I tried to return a lipstick to Rite-Aid after 30 days. No luck. Some great guarantee they have.
Personally my picky skin loves Mary Kay. I am saving lots of money compared to department store brands and have the best looking skin ever.

  9. Actually there is another company who guarantees their product AND bring it to you. You know, the #1 direct seller in the world? Avon. Yup, Avon. And a lot less than $300.

Darcy, your comment didn’t halt anything, it wasn’t worth a comment.

MK also claims to be #1 in Skin Care and Color Cosmetics for 14 straight years, guess all these companies have their own ways of determining who’s #1.  For MK we know they count sales to the consultant, not the consumer, because that’s all they can track.

How did Avon determine they were the #1 selling  in the world and what were they #1 at selling?

Seen one MLM seen them all!  I’m not knocking Avon, just the system that these MLM companies use to determine they are #1.

I’d love to hear how Avon determines their claim to be #1.

  12. Try looking up Avon on any website. They will say Avon, cosmetics giant, or #1 direct sales giant Avon…. I have NO doubt that MK consultants buy their way into saying the co. in #1. Look how much inventory is being luquidated.
Avon does not “front load” or require any inventory AT ALL.
I’m getting sidetracked here. All you need to do is look at the newsprint on who’s #1 in direct selling. Point blank.
Anyways what I was saying is there IS another company who will deliver to you and has a satisfaction guarantee.
Is MK worldwide? I don’t know the answer to that….

  13. that is supposed to say “liquidated.”

Yes Darcy MK is worldwide. I have no  issues with Avon, infactI just ordered some! I HATE shopping for makeup and another Instructional Assistant that I work with was selling it so I got  on her website and ordered some. WAY cheaper than MK! We’ll see if I like the quality though! I don’t mind supporting Avon, it doesn’t give me the Heebie Geebies that MK does.

  15. Let me say too, that I do like Mary Kay product, and several years ago I was (what I now know) “warm chattered” by a very savvy IBC (or director, who knows) I really loved Mary Kay and was a SAHM and thought this might be what I want to do.
A little bit of research later I found out that NO, this was not the way to go. A few months later I went with Avon and was never sorry.

  16. Hmmm… what did you order? I can probably tell you right now if your’e going to like it.
Is it worldwide? Or just UK?
    BTW…. LOVE this website.

  17. AND supporting Avon is an awesome way to go. Avon is the leader in the fight against breast cancer, donating over $550 million dollars. Avon is also a “powerhouse” (sorry, couldn’t resist) in the support of women in domestic violence.

    I ordered 2 shower sprays,lavender/chamomile scent, I couldn’t resist 2 because 1 cost $9, but 2 cost $6.5O WTH. I also bought a face set for$15 I think, mascara and the 8 in 1 eye shadow, neutral colors.  for $6.95 I think.
I’m sure I will be happy!

Darcy, you can’t start an argument with me because you see I am not pro-MK…been there done that, don’t want to anymore!

I don’t have anything against Avon, I used to sell it when I was 19, didn’t make a lot of money doing that either!

I just think a person is better off working a regular job with regular pay that you can depend on …as in the same amount every Friday rain or shine, and with benefits, life insurance, health insurance,a retirement plan, paid vacations, and paid sick days.

I thnk it’s great that Avon gives to domestic violence, and supports breast cancer.  They are both very worthwhile causes.

Again, I’m not knocking Avon. If it works for you I am happy for you, really and I wish you the best, I don’t want to sell Avon myself or anything else.

Peace, Karma to you…I don’t want to argue.

  23. Who on earth is starting an argumenet?
And I do see your point on GUARANTEED money. But with two small kids, one being an infant I will not leave them to go work 8 hours away from home.
At least this way I can earn SOME money and not have to leave my baby.
ANYWAYS….. all I was responding to was that YES there IS another company that brings the product to you and guarantees their product.
I don’t know how this got sidetracked.

Walgreen’s takes back makeup and skincare for a full refund too.  So do most high end brands.  It’s not an MK exclusive.

i sold avon several years ago and was never happy about the amt. of product i either had to send back or try to resell.  inevitably, there was always 2 or 3 gals who would order avon and then either change their mind (aka not having the money), or only had 1/2 of the money of their order, or cancelled because what they ordered avon was on back-order for and it had been ordered for a specific reason like a b-day, or c-mas, etc.  the best part was you only got 20-25% off most orders because of the order amount and it got to be not worth it, especially driving to deliver.  oh, and then at least 1/3 of the products didn’t work, or came in broken, or were smaller than the customer thought, or didn’t fit, etc.  i sold it twice for about a year each and came up way in the hole!  i occasionally buy from one of my mary kay customers who sells avon, but i would never sell it again.  too much time and effort for little or no return.  happy new year to you ladies – i know i will make mine an ’09 to shine!  i’ve got a bajillion things i want to accomplish and i’ve scratched off one thing by getting my haircut the other day.  beautiful day today in the ozarks – i believe it was about 70 degrees.
