You Want Pink Cosmetics Leaves Consultant with No Product & NSF Check!

Warning: You may want to think twice before using Mary Kay reseller You Want Pink Cosmetics.
I received this note from a former consultant who sold her excess inventory to them. Here is what she wrote:
I got a quote from them to liquidate some small inventory a couple of months ago… After sending them the products in good faith, they drastically reduced my quote, and held onto my products for a month with no contact. They finally, contacted me, said they had been “busy”, and sent me a check for the reduced amount (I didn’t get back the products they “rejected”).
The check bounced and my bank charged me an NSF fee.

I asked this woman to send me some verification of this so I could be sure of her story.
You will see below the verification letter that her bank provided her with (I have deleted the name & info of the bank for obvious reasons) :
One of the things that makes PinkLighthouse a great place is the great, reliable group of resellers we have here. We can no longer recommend that you do business with You Want Pink Cosmetics.
Popularity: 8%

Wow, what a bummer! I was just going to liquidate some items to Touch Of Pink Cosmetics, now I am not so sure. Does anyone have any experience with them? Let me know if I am about to make a big mistake! Thanks
I just used Goldflowerinc & was totally pleased.
Goldflowerinc is great.
Touch of Pink is highly reputable and professional, in my experience.
I’ve heard varying things about Touch of Pink Cosmetics. I would proceed with caution, though, given their being sued by Mary Kay.
Just want to clarify that this article is about YOU WANT PINK COSMETICS.
There are always 2 sides of any story!!!
The purpose of this message is to clear up any perceived misunderstanding about doing business with You Want Pink Cosmetics.
Recently, a customer filed a complaint concerning 2 things: 1) a NSF charged by the bank and 2) no return of rejected products.
(Point #1 — NSF charged by the bank)
We were unaware this person was charged a return check fee. We were never contacted or provided with an opportunity to rectify the situation. Had we been properly contacted about this, we would have definitely covered the $10 return check fee. Since this situation has been brought to our attention through your blog (and not by offended party), we were able to identify the offended and have taken appropriate steps to provide proper reimbursement of the $10 return check fee.
(Point #2 – No return of rejected products)
Prior to shipping on July 16 of 2008, the offended was provided with the following information:
(1) We have had a few problems with some returns due to the age of the
products. Therefore, we have determined that we will need to ephasize the codes to our potential liquidators. The acceptable codes for You Want Pink Cosmetics are as follows: H=2005, K=2006, M=2007 and R=2008.
These codes can be found on the back crimp or bottom of your products.
(2) We DO NOT ACCEPT expired products! If there is an expiration date
listed on the product and it is clearly passed or just at the timeframe, please do not send.
Clearly, this liquidator did not check to ensure their products met our requested codes before sending. Once the products were received, we responded on July 22, 2008 via email that 2/3 of the products received were expired. The product quote was adjusted accordingly and the decision was left to the offended concerning what should be done with the expired products: discard of them or return the products via mail? Finally, on August 15 (nearly a month later) the offended made a decision on what to do with the expired products. They responded with the following quote: “You can throw them out…”
In closing we were surprised to be removed from Pink Lighthouse after only hearing one side of the story. In the future, we hope that the “complete” story is research before action is taken.
Since our company’s reputation was challenged, we felt a need to tell our side of the story. As we all know, every story has 2 sides. Thanks again for the previous posting on Pink Lighthouse.
YWPC…As to your points:
1. How can you not know that your check bounced? To my knowledge, when you bounce a check, the check comes back to you with a notice from the bank. Doesn’t make sense to me.
2. I don’t expect any liquidator on my site to accept products that are against their set terms. (By the way…YOU’RE the liquidator, not the consultant, as you have referred to her. )
I’m concerned about how this was handled though. There’s a difference between EXPIRED and DATED. There are only a few products in the Mary Kay line that have true expiration dates. The others simply have a date code indicating when they were manufactured. Items with older date codes can still be good products and easily sold on eBay, therefore they have a value.
The consultant claims you took a good while to respond to her. I’m concerned about the poor communication.
As to your removal from Pink Lighthouse…The letter that the consultant received confirming that she received a bad check from you was enough for me to yank you. But other items added to this decision:
1. One of my requirements of liquidators is that they are an active member of the PL community. They must register on the forum and post and participate. I told you this when you first requested a listing in March 2008.
You contacted me again in June 2008 to ask me to update your listing and in checking your account on the forum, I noticed that you had never been there nor posted since registering. I told you then that you were in jeopardy of being removed if you didn’t participate. You then posted an introductory post.
You haven’t been on the forum since June 2nd.
Which means:
2. I’m providing you with a service and business, yet you choose not to meet my criteria for being listed. One of the points of being on the forum is to build rapport and trust with the people there. You know…the consultants who might want to do business with you?
As you do business with people there, they have the opportunity to rate you, and you them. This provides valuable information to others and HELPS BUILD YOUR BUSINESS. Ask the other active and successful liquidators there.
PLUS my forum is a resource for product! That’s why you want to be there.
3. Liquidator listings on Pink Lighthouse are at MY discretion. I do NOT endorse any of the liquidators on the site, but I do take these listings seriously. They are a valuable resource and since people know that the integrity of the site is high, they expect the information and resources supplied to be tip top too. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
So if there is the slightest doubt in my mind about a liquidator listed on the site, their listing is removed. And writing a bad check is a pretty big one in my book that I don’t want to take a chance on. Even with the “complete story” as you put it. It simply shouldn’t happen.
4. I wrote this post on 18 September. You’re just now showing up to respond? Hmmm…
See Item 1.
Your company’s reputation was not challenged; I was simply reporting something that I had documentation for. Mistakes happen, but the bad check just gave me a bad feeling. I didn’t want others to suffer the same fate and I had NO idea whether this was an “oops” or a pattern developing with a business that is failing. I still say that any business that bounces a check has problems. Just shouldn’t happen. It’s a big red flag to me.
You could have contacted me as soon as you found out. If you were active here, as you should be, you would have been able to address this sooner.
I haven’t found any problems with the “You Want Pink Pr oducts” and I am very satisfied with the promptness of receiving the products I request.
I shipped inventory to You Want Pink on June 16th, which was confirmed received. To date, I have yet to receive payment. I’ve sent several communications to this company via email, and have not received a reply as to when my check will be mailed. Reading the other comments have me worried. I would like to give them a chance to redeem themselves, but they would need to act swiftly and send payment asap.
I also am having a hard time receiving my money from this company( I use the term loosely). I sent products to them 32 days ago and as of 7/21/09 have not received my check from them. It is only after I emailed them and told them my Daughter had done some research and found them to have questionable ethics andI told them I thought they were a scam that I received another email from them. No response as to when I would receive my check though. I would never recomend them for liquidation of Mary Kay or any other products.
Some one please help! I am trying to liquidate my Mary Kay inventory and I am not sure what liquidator to use. I checked Goldflower Inc and they said their store was closed. I sent a list to You Want Pink but based on the posts I am worried about reliability ( I am getting married and really need the money) and one of the earlier posts makes me nervouse about Touch of Pink. If anyone has any other ideas of what to do please help! I am stuck with all of this inventory because I was never informed of the one year sell back date and was 2 days over due. I am very frustrated please help if you can. Thanks!
Lisa,
Check out the forum.
BE FOR-WARNED!!!I have sent, in good faith, YWPC over $3600 in wholesale products, which should have amounted to a check for 1800 plus 6.50 per box shipped, yet I have not received ANY check or ANY payment. I shipped within the range (48 hrs), had tracking on it and paid over $200 to ship all of it. Now I am out $3600 plus $200 shipping and my time. I have emailed them 7 times and left 2 voice mail messages with no response to anything. At this point I’m going to file a small claims suit against them for all of this. Since this person resides in FL, I think I need to file within her state, but I am checking with a lawyer on this. I recommend anyone else who has had this problem to do the same so that this person is put out of business and everyone is reimbursed for this mess. If it’s taking more time to process everything I’m fine with that but at least express these changes to me don’t just ignore my contacts with the group. I HIGHLY HIGHLY discourage the use of YWPC as NOHTIHNG has been resolved and it’s been over a month now.
Hmmmm…NOT a good sign!
I am EXTREMELY worried! I too have sent a liquidation order to YWPC in which they had agreed to pay me about $1200 plus $19.50 for shipping costs. Communication was perfect throughout their quote process. But after I emailed them that I had shipped the order out (on August 18th), I haven’t been able to get ahold of them since! I checked my UPS tracking # and it shows that they received it on August 20th!!!!!! I have emailed them over and over, I have left 2 messages on their business number and have even emailed their customer service email address-which their machine says is the fastest way to receive a response! All of my attempts have gone un-answered! I have used them before and there was no problems. The last time it was less than what this order is for. I really need this money too!!! My mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on August 24th, (we had an idea that’s what it was prior to that which is why I liquidated the rest of my products). My mom doesn’t have health insurance, nor does she have an income. She has been dealing with social security for the past 4 years trying to get benefits due to her severe back problems. So I knew that with her having cancer, there was going to be some expenses that were going to need to be covered! She’s due to start chemo very soon, and that will be halted if I don’t receive this money!! What can I do??? My income is very limited too, I don’t know that I can even afford to file a suit as someone suggested earlie! In a very VERY bad spot! Please help!
I just filed a complain with the BBB. I suggest anyone else with this issue to do the same. Ginny, im so sorry to hear about your mother and i hope the issue with $$ resolves soon. File with BBB and then after get a lawyer if need be. Im in the same boat as you. Sorry i don’t have more adivse on this.
FYI the BBB is the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org)
I have a question when people want to send their MK back why dont they just send it back to the company and get the 90 percent check back and say goodbye to MK? By the way I am not coming down on you Ginny I didnt know if you knew you could send it back to the company I hope Mom gets better my mom is not well either so I know how you feel (I think).
B/c MK will only take back products bought within the last year. They also do not resell these products they are destroyed. I did sell back what i could to MK but i still had some things that were fine for use but they wouldn’t take b/c it was not 1yr or less since i bought it. Hope this helps.
Colleen,
Just as Jess stated….MK only offers the 90% buyback on products purchased within a year from the date you wish to send products back…anything else you’re SOL with them!
Jess,
As soon as I posted here I went directly to the BBB and filed a complaint! I have heard nothing from them or the company as of yet! The $$ issue has not resolved, in fact it’s gotten worse! My truck has had both right and left side wheel bearings and hubs go bad in back to back weeks! $500 in repairs, I had to take from bill money, so now I’m $500 plus in the hole as far as bills go (between truck and mom’s medical expenses). Plus, my dad is not doing well! His heart is barely hanging on! I’m stretched too thin as it is with the schedule I’m keeping these days, but I’m about to have to take a fast food job in the evenings I don’t work or have school just so we can afford to pay bills! Not to mention what we are going to have to pay for mom’s chemo treatments!!!!!! This is NOT something I need to be dealing with right now! Or ever! This is a crime!!!! Please keep me posted on your progress with this company, if you don’t mind! My email is ginnybean21@gmail.com!
Ginny
I have to go to the doctor tomorrow with my mom as well and she has a weak heart too she is 75. I dont blame you family comes first and you did the right thing by getting a job no matter what it is. I wish you all the best I know this is not an easy time for you right now. It is hard on a lot of people republican or democrat, black or white I know God is looking out for everyone. We just have to believe and hold on the best we can. Forget the BBB they are approved by companies who pay to be a part of their database BUT they do put the ratings down and log every complain they get so they are not a scam certification by any means. I will email you on the weekend. I will be thinking about you.
Ginny, i will definatly keep you posted. BBB has i think 30 days to contact the company and try to work things out. Keep thinking positive thoughts. I am hoping that this person will come to their senses and just pay what is owed to everyone. If I end up needing to contact a lawyer on this i will definatly keep you in the loop so you can join the fight too if need be. I hope the BBB can do something about this. I know times are tough for everyone, and im in the same boat with work and looking at partime work. I will keep you in thoughts and prayers! Im sorry to hear your father is not doing well either. Like Colleen said, GOD is looking out for everyone! Keep fighting the good fight girl!

BBB Code of Business Practices
The BBB Code of Business Practices represents sound advertising, selling and customer service practices that enhance customer trust and confidence in business. The Code is built on the BBB Standards for Trust, eight principles that summarize important elements of creating and maintaining trust in business.
This Code also represents standards for business accreditation by the BBB. Businesses based in the United States and Canada that meet these standards and complete application procedures will be accredited by the BBB.
To be accredited by BBB a business or organization affirms that it meets and will abide by the following standards:
Build Trust

Fulfill all licensing and bonding requirements of applicable jurisdictions; provide all license and bonding information upon application for BBB accreditation; and provide periodic updates upon request of the BBB.
Be free from government action that demonstrates a significant failure to support the BBB ethical principles in marketplace transactions (this requires a determination by the BBB as to the nature of any violation, whether it was caused or condoned by management, and actions taken to resolve underlying issues that led to the government action).
Be free from an unsatisfactory rating and maintain the minimum grade requirement at the accrediting BBB and the BBB where it is headquartered, if different.
In its relationship with the BBB:
meet all applicable standards within this Code of Business Practices

Tell the Truth

explains why any relief sought by the complainant cannot or should not be granted.
Make a good faith effort to resolve disputes, which includes mediation if requested by the BBB. Other dispute resolution options, including arbitration, may be recommended by the BBB when other efforts to resolve a dispute have failed. An accredited business or organization agrees to:
Avoid involvement, by the business or its principals, in activities that in the opinion of the BBB reflect unfavorably on, or otherwise adversely affect the public image of the BBB or its accredited businesses.
Thanks Jess,
I’ve still heard nothing. Meanwhile, we are sinking fast financially! This has really, really screwed us up hill, sideways, in a blizzard and in a hurry!! Please let me know the outcome of your ordeal! I’m thinking of filing a complaint with the Florida Attorney General’s office too! I need to get my money back—FAST!! I don’t have money to pay an attorney, but I don’t want this business to get away with doing this to us, or anyone else! This is ridiculous!! I’m totally fed up and ready to fight! Gloves are off!!
Ginny
i am so sorry for your struggle. If i could help in any way i would, but as you know my hands are tied as well. I am hoping to hear something soon from BBB. If not, let me know. Im not sure what state you reside in, but im in NC. If you live in FL and are going to talk to an attorney, advise him that im looking for assistance as well and maybe he will cut us a break on the cost to use his services since there are 2 cases to submit. As soon as i hear anything i will let you know. Keep the chin up girl, everything for a reason we just might not understand why!
I live in Virginia. I filed with the BBB on September 30th, so I have to wait another week before seeing if they had any luck! My guess is NO! I’m going to contact the Attorney General in FL next. Obviously, this company is going out of business…my thing is, they certainly had to be aware of that prior to accepting our liquidation orders..so why accept them!!! Why not say we are going out of business and are currently not accepting anymore items!! Why screw innocent people in troubled times!! I just can’t believe the lack of morals and level of greed in individuals today! It makes me so angry and leaves me feeling like a fool!!
Ginny
Don’t feel like a fool, how were you to know that they were going to screw us? I got a letter back from BBB saying that the company never responded, and I’m assuming that you will be getting the same letter since we both filed on 9/30/09. So it looks like the Attorney General in FL is the next step. Let me know if I can help with anything, how much it will cost us, and I defiantly want to jump on the same case that you are on since we are both in the same boat. Since YWPC screwed us, I am going to file so that they will be paying me back the FULL retail cost of the products since I’m no longer a consultant and would need to pay full price for the products I sent them. So what was only $1836.00 that they owed will now be $7344.00 plus lawyer expenses and if I need to fly down for the case, all my travel expenses too. Keep me posted on any progess and how we can coordinate the case in FL. Keep your chin up hun, we will get what is due to us and so will YWPC. I don’t lay down easily when people try to screw me over and I can tell you are the same way!
