E.J. Very happy to hear about your Mother’s successes…..I don’t however believe that it’s all been sunshine and roses….she’s had to have worked really hard at recruiting. Bet she’s very good at selling the dream.
You’ve said a lot about how well your Mother has done but you’ve failed to mention what level you have attained in the last eight years you have been active….I’m confused…..and I don’t get why your not touting your own horn?

EJ, according to Mary Kay, the slogan goes “God first, family second, career third”. But that’s of no consequence since we all know that while they say “MK is meant to be sprinkled throughout your life”, MK marginalizes every other aspect of life if you’re running the pink hamster wheel.
PS, 8 times more money than what? A lemonade stand?

Very glad to know that she is succeeding. My only problem with this article is the spelling and missing letters.
“What did you learn from MK?:
Family first, god second, and career 3rd”
You had to learn that? Dang, I’ll have to tell my mom that she was ahead of the class then…sorry…not trying to make fun of you or anything. I just find it funny that you you learned that from MK….sorry again..
Love and Peace

“What did you learn from MK?:

Well unfortunately you didn’t learn it correctly. Mary Kay teaches Faith first, Family second, and career Third.
But the reality is that MK is always supposed to come first. Mary Kay is your faith, family and career all rolled into one.

EJ - I am wondering how many hours per week of actual working time is involved?
I also assume the “literaly 8 times more money” would be BEFORE expenses as well. And of course, the age old question, “What do the tax returns show?”
Not trying to be sarcastic, but seriously to make 8X’s an even minimum wage level job, would be astounding - somewhere in the $ 75,000 range! And this is AFTER all deductions and expenses?
That would have to put sales & commissions over $ 100,000 with minimal deductions and expenses.
Kudos to Mom if she is pulling this off!

Dang, all of you just shut her down and opened up shop.

To echo Rethinkingpink, please tell us what your mother is now making eight times more than. I think the average American earns around $35000 to $40000 per year, and that’s gross pay not net pay. So is she well in to six figures, yearly? Is she an NSD, because from what I can see, they are the only ones who may earn anything substantial. I don’t know. To quote Pres. G.W. Bush, something I never do, there is some “fuzzy math” going on in MK.

From what I used to see at unit meetings, the “salary” comparison was always broken down to per hour earnings.
To compare MK hourly pay to a job is comparing apples to oranges, because in a job one is paid for her time.
So what if an IBC has a $200 class (2 hours of work according to the SD’s at the meeting) for a rate of $200 per hour?!
If that’s the only class that books and holds that week, then someone making $10 per hour (the oh-so-horrible alternative to MK) at a job where she is GUARANTEED 40 hours of work makes 2x more money that week.
I would love to see your mom’s schedule C, EJ!

Correction: that would be $100 per hour after buying more inventory (wouldn’t want to embezzle, even though it’s impossible to embezzle from yourself!)
So the $10/hour for 40 hrs make 4x more!

I have a REAL job that pays better than MK! I work no more than 4 hrs per day, driving a school bus.
I do no paper work, no phone calls, no inventory, my riders come to their bus stop, I don’t have to hunt for them at the mall and I honestly get paid $14.50 and hour with no fuzzy math!
I don’t work all summer, I get Spring Break off, 2 weeks at Christmas and when the weather is bad, I can stay home, guilt free, in my jammies and nobody expects me to make phone calls or call anybody!

EJ I’m glad you are proud of your mother, but what are your successes? We would LOVE to hear about you!

Lipstick, you crack me up “my riders come to their bus stop, I don’t have to hunt for them at the mall” LMAO
Also, your gas is paid for by the COMPANY, your vehicle is paid for BY THE COMPANY - NO CO-PAYS; and the insurance, upkeep, taxes and insurance, ALL paid for BY THE COMPANY!
Benefits - BY THE COMPANY (Sorry, those don’t exist in MK!)
September 9th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
Lipstick, I like you! You are a hoot! The idea of having to hunt people down make a buck is just plain dumb. I complain about my job, but I’m thankful for it. I’m salaried, so I get paid whether my clients show up for appointments or not. Imagine that MK! I’m starting a new job soon where all of by benefits will be paid completely by my employer! You could sell a Miracle Set everyday and you still would not get a benefit like that from MK. Seriously MK ladies, get a real job, and stop trying to sell women this garbage that MK will set them free from the 9 to 5. No matter how you distort the figures, the average IBC or SD has no more money in there pocket than a regular working woman. Do some fact checking, see wikipedia.com and read the turnover rate among MK consulants.

Well said, My Beauty. MK offers nothing close to those benefits until a person gets to the NSD level and they still need to keep on churning out Directors and recruiting or their incomes drop dramatically. these women are also away from home and living out of suitcases a lot.
MK sells the dream so well, some people begin to believe they are making executive incomes. They have heard the “fuzzy math” so many times they begin to see it as TRUTH instead of the exageration it really is.
But the Schedule C on your tax return never lies!

My Beauty, do you post on the forum? We would love to see you over there!!!!!!
September 13th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Yes - My Beauty, join us in the forum! We have a blast!
September 13th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Come on inside My Beauty…we’d like to get to know you better and we talk about way more than MK. We have a lot of fun and MK really doesn’t come up in our conversations in the forum all that much unless our newbies ask for advice or ask questions and then we are not shy about sharing our experiences and the TRUTH!
September 14th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Thanks ladies, I will join you in the forum soon.

Why are you all hating? It sounds to me that misery loves company.
October 31st, 2008 at 11:07 am
See now, Ingrid…that’s NOT nice and calling us all haters is rude! I knew you were in a pink fog and you’ve just provided the proof! You cannot see another point of view without us being all evil and negative!
Most people here try very hard to be respectful which can be hard when people have such opposite views and beliefs. You should try to do the same. I think your post is going to bring out the worst in some….hmmm perhaps that was your goal to serve your own need to know that we are negative people and that somehow makes it okay to dis us!
You are welcome here, but I am telling you that you must be respectful and play nice! NO name calling that is NOT tolerated!
