i have a mk website that usually produces 2 or 3 good referral orders each year. for me, “good” is $75 or more. the bigger purpose for me having the site is my regular customers ordering on-line, seeing the new products, etc. etc. here’s one thing i do – you know how if you sign up for the site within like a month or two of signing into mary kay, it’s only $25 for the year? well, when that expires, i don’t renew right away. i wait about 3 or 4 months, then am always offered to “come back” for the intro price of $25 and that’s when i sign back on. i’ve done this maybe 5 or 6 times, so for me, the website works and pays for itself. one of the referrals i got was about 4 years ago, and it’s a lady i’ve never met. she on-lines (or calls) what she wants, i leave it on a bench by her front door and she puts a check in the bushes!!! her order is generally between $75 and $100 (just once a year), but her order alone pays the $25 cost.

My beauty, I too didn’t get the referrals I thought I would, I think it was1!!!!!! BFD!!!! Not worth the $18OO I spent in MK each 1/4. There is nothing legit about Mary Kay!

My sales director was always trying to talk me into doing a Grand Reopening!!!! Like that would do any good! My friends and family were ignoring me already because of MK and my director!

Oh, the debut thing. Yeah, that is where you invite EVERYONE you know, (ie, just like you were getting married or having a baby shower) and have them to your house so your SD or recruiter can sit them all down and go through all the products to tell them how WONDERFUL everything is and you have your calendar there and she will take orders and book parties for you to get you started (and, like Lipstick said) get your 30 faces scheduled.
No makeup or skincare is done, just talking and talking and talking (2 1/2 hours at mine) and if you have 15 people, you get ? (maybe pearl bracelet? or necklace?). Now, in order to get 15 there, you’d better invite at least 60 and have enough food for them, etc.

Not certain what the “pinned as Elite” is, our EESD didn’t do that but did tell us we’d get X and never followed thru. I assume it was something she “did” on her own.
Lipstick answered the referrals dead on – the 2 I got in 18 months certainly did not pay for the website. Definitely NOT worth attempting to maintain active status for.
As far as IBC to IBC sales, we did tax on retail plus wholesale price, and like Lipstick, never charged for shipping.
If you want to get rid of your inventory, after your friend is done, notify your customers you are selling 40% off retail. You may make a little doing it that way but still watch your time frame so you can return all others before 1 year for 90% back.

Once you return product to the company for 90% buyback, you will be considered terminated and have no more ordering privileges or access to InTouch, product returns, Applause. You are out of MK!

Your SD’s “suggestion” to place an order to bring your production to $1000 was for her benefit to make her end of month production!

In order to get MK corporate referrals, you must be a Star Consultant and have a web site! You will not get the number of referrals you expect.
In all my years of having a web site…I only got
2 referrals from people searching for a consultant. Not enough for the money I spent and the length of time that I was a Star Consultant.

The copany discourages trading and consultant to consultant sales. But usually you write up a sales ticket for wholesale + retail sales tax. YOu could charge her a portion of the shipping, but I was never charged shipping and never charged shipping to anlther consultant unless she was out of my area and I actually shipped the product to her customer!

Dont fall for the referral line…you will get very few referral if any, depending on how many star consultants are in your zip code! The low chance of getting a referral is not worth placing orders for product that is not sold!

Somereferrals are just out to get free samples andthen they end up buying from somebody else anyway! Be smart!

I would define your first class that your recruiter held for you as a debut…why have two? In a debut you can invite a lot of people, show some product, officially open your business and the purpose is to take orders and try to book your
Perfect Start. So maybe that is what she is going for.

Hey ladies, I know that I can return my inventory and refund for 90% of what I paid. Now, will I be deemed inactive at that point? Also , what the hell is “debut”? I have already held my initial party at my home, where my recruiter conducted the class and I earned my first sales. Was that not a debut? My recruiter contacted me the other day asking me what my schedule looked like so that I could schedule my debut. I basically asked her the same thing that I just asked all of you. I was busy at the time so I asked her to email me. I have not heard back from her. Every week there’s something else with MK! A few weeks ago I placed a small order, my recruiter’s suggestion, to bring my “production” to $1000 for the month of July. This was on the 30th. She stated the I would be pinned as an “Elite” for this. I was not. Did she lie to me or should I have been pinned? Also, can anyone give me clarification as to how much production you have to have before you receive company referrals? One last thing, how exactly do consultant to consultant sales work? I said in an earlier post that I am trying to sell some product to my friend, who is also a consultant in another city. Bottom line, I want to get rid of this damn inventory, but retain my active status and wholesale production so that I can get referrals, if I can. After that, I want no inventory, just order as I receive payments. I know this is not the topic we were commenting on, but I just thought I would ask while I was here. Thanks ladies!
