Mary Kay Opinion - Julie Salentine

Written by L J on June 12, 2008 – 2:32 pm -

I was wondering if anyone who maintains this site has ever been a part of the direct selling industry. I am a well-educated 35 year old woman who became a director with Mary Kay and earned my first company car in seven months and have been able to leave my corporate job. The comments I read about the Mary Kay car program made me laugh. Every company car is always a lease car whether you are in corporate America or otherwise. I couldn’t even get a turkey in Corporate America much less a car that I get to use and pay no insurance or repairs on, and you don’t have to accept the car. You can always take the cash compensation instead. If you know of anywhere that actually GIVES people cars let me know. I’d like to get in on that. Also, yes, Seminar is coming up but I have not asked even one of my girls to attend. I just provided them with the information and they make their own decisions about attending. Of course the designer handbags and other raffles are fun, but I realize many people cannot, or do not want to go to Seminar. That is their choice. It seems as if the people who maintain this site have a bad taste in their mouth regarding Mary Kay. That’s too bad. It’s not for everyone, but I never been lied to or mislead about what I was getting into and I love it.

Oh gag me lady!  I worked for an engineering firm in CA that GAVE company cars and then some as sign-on bonuses.  Free of charge, free of repair/maintenence fees, free of gas costs even!  Get this: I even got to clock out at the end of the day and stop thinking about my job - my Joy of the Blessed.  When I got together with friends or went to the bank/grocery/etc., I didnt’ have to keep the mental wheels turning to find a way to sneak MK into the conversation.  But you go ahead and keep living in denial, we’ll be here when you’re ready.

I don’t have to think about my work after a certain point either… its your choice how much you want to think about MK, or work it, or whatever. i have a great director and even a great adopted director, I just think your perception of MK is off just a tad

rethinkingpink - just wondering why you are not with the engineering firm in CA that gave company cars and then some as sign-on bonuses?  why are you not with your joy of the blessed, where you could clock out at the end of the day and stop thinking about your job.  i work at a chain restaurant and have for 20 years and still think about my job after clocking out - i didn’t realize that was so awful.

First I find it appalling that you laugh at other peoples misfortunes regarding the car.  Seriously, I thought being a “Mary Kay Lady” meant being nice…isn’t that kinda unchristian like as well?!

Corpse didn’t “give” you the car.  You either “earned” it or basically bought it through your inventory!  I know several corporate offices that GIVE you a car to drive while you are with them.  AND…they don’t make you qualify quarterly for the car!  Some companies even pay for the fuel.

You didn’t ask any of your girls to attend seminar?  WOW…honestly I am praising you right now because you aren’t/weren’t the pushy type that I had to deal with!!

You seem like you are taking this as a personal attack and feel you have to defend yourself when you actually don’t, unless you are guilty of things that were said?

I am not trying to be mean here but the handbags at seminar are designer..?  Are you talking like Coach and Gucci designer??  A couple of friends of mine that went to seminar spent roughly $500 to get there, meals and whatever.  The way I shop, I could have had 2 coach bags at that price, and maybe some extra items.

I joined MK to earn extra money while being a stay at home mom.  I learned that I did enjoy the adult GIRL time…I was away from what I loved most, my family.  After 2 years of it..I decided that my family was #1.

rethinking pink.. after you quit, or left, did you get to keep the car? (not comparing to mk, just curious)

Sarah, do you know anybody who quit or left MK and got to keep their car (without purchasing it)?

If so, I’d like to hear from them.  When you get to KEEP the car no matter WHAT it’s called “winning” or “earning” a car, if there are strings attached, it’s called “borrowing” or “using” a car.

Like I said, hon, wasn’t comparing to MK, I seriously was just curious about that company.  :)  And you know, as well as I do, that if you leave MK you don’t get to keep the car.  I would actually be kind of annoyed if that were true.  Someone who isn’t with the company shouldn’t be driving around a car with the MK logo on it. :P
