Amy’s Story

Written by L J on May 30, 2008 – 8:16 am -

Your Name: Amy

Date Joined MK (mm/yyyy): May 2006

When Left MK or Still Active?: December 2006

Initial Inventory Purchased: $1800.00

How were you recruited?:

My neighbour had a “party” where her director sat around and wanted to learn what we knew about MK. In other words she was there to “educate” (recruit) us. I said no that night. Then I went to one of those dinner and a makeover event…once again they tried to recruit me, I still said no. Then greed got the best of me when my neighbour’s director (soon to be my director) said “but why wouldn’t you want to get your own products at half price?” Boom, signed up and with in two weeks the brilliant con artist of a director had convinced me that I would be “great in sales” (Gag!)

Memorable experience you had in MK:

I did have some fun and meet some lovely people…however it all seems so tainted now that I know it was all so fake!

My ah ha moment was while I was at a fall retreat. I was standing in a room full of women singing retarded songs while being preached at to buy more inventory! The retreat was my last MK event. I had seen the light!

What did you learn from MK?:

The best part of my MK experience was finding this website. Sharing stories and learning that I wasn’t the only smart woman that was duped by MK. I also learned more about myself…..I learned that I don’t need a pile of makeup on my face everyday to feel good and proud of myself. I also learned that I don’t need the approval of a bunch of fake-happy women cheering that I once again opened my wallet! I learned some humility and self worth to the core, not just on the outside!

What are you doing now? :

I’ve continued with my career as an R.N. in an acute care setting part-time.

Additional Comments:

I’m so happy to not have any further dealings with MK! The “fake it til you make it” phrase is so abrasive to my being. I am so happy to be real, honest and genuine! I have found many others her on the PLH forum that are just that; happy, genuine and relaxed! They are a joy to know and it’s a pleasure reading their posts!

Kuddos to getting out of the fog and realizing you don’t need to “buy” approval!  Many of us can’t belive we got sucked into this scheme!  You are an inspiration!

Good for you for continuing with nursing rather than wasting more time on Mary Kay!

How were you dupped? Maybe you needed to read more about what you were getting yourself into. The person who told you to sign up did not force you to. You did that all on your own. It sounds like you caved- and you seem like a negative person so I hope you find more happiness in your future endeavors. You mentioned you did meet some people and had fun but then it seems tainted, why? Were you used to always being mad w/no friends? Negativity loves company so I am glad you found this website as well.

    Lina,

There are MANY of us who were “dupped” by our SD, the ones who are supposed to mentor and train us!

I find your comments extremely rude.

I think Lina has a  right to ask such questions. All business requires income. Mk does too and it makes $ through consultants purchasing inventory. However, the women who really are not sellers are truly being honed in on for gain and it hurts the bottom line. Rather than profit by consultant they should focus on profit by customers. Cut down the margins of Lancome and Mac. When consultants get smart MK will refocus.  The SD is to train for customer satisfaction and they have lazened themselves and train for car or director status satisfaction. They too need to make MK re-work their plan!

Whoaaa! Lina! Back right off! Amy is entitled to tell her story and to her opinion! It’s people like you, is  why she’s not in MK! I happen to know Amy well! She is NOT negative! She happens to be a very loving and giving person. So MK not for her, big deal! Shame on you Lina for being so rude….please find a better way to voice your negative opinions! Glad you are NOT sticking around this website!
