Former Sr. Director w/ 2 Offsprings Talks
Name: April
Date Joined MK: December 2001
Highest Level Achieved: Sr. Director with 2 Offsprings
When Left MK Or Are You Still Active: Left In January 2007
Initial Inventory Purchased: $3,000.00
How were you recruited?
A close friend of mine – her sister had been in MK for almost 10 years at the time (I thought she made 6 figures – boy was I wrong!).
My friend told her sister to send me some info in the mail (she thought I’d be great). I had never tried the product, been to a party, or anything.
I was basically recruited after watching the “Consider the Possibilities” video… and I bought the #3k inventory package just a few short days later.
What about Mary Kay appealed to you most?
Money, recognition, and fun
Tell us about one of your most memorable or embarassing situations while in Mary Kay
The most memorable – Earning my first career car – finished qualifications just 2 days after my daughter was born. I went through car qualifications and DIQ while having a baby and working full time!
The most embarrassing – realizing what a SCAM this whole thing really is and that I had put blood, sweat, and tears into it only to find my family in financial strains.
What did you learn from your Mary Kay experience?
NEVER join an MLM again… no matter how fun, pretty, exciting, or whatever they make it look!
What are you doing now? Working full or part time? Working from home? etc. Returned to my banking career (I had over 8 years in banking before I left in 2004 to pursue Directorship and have a baby).
Additional Comments
I have spent the last few months since I quit trying to process all of this. I spent 5 years in this company, poured my heart and soul into it, brought 4 other women through the ranks of Directorhip (2 of my own and 2 adoptees), earned 2 company cars, and thought I would spend my life working this business. I started seeing through the PINK FOG and realizing that I left a $55k/year job in banking for something that I barely made $20k (after expenses)… as well as getting my family in over $50k worth of debt. Trust me, this business is NOT all that it is cracked up to be.
