How were you recruited?
I “won” a free bride makeover for me and some of my friends. The MK consultant asked me if I would want to go to coffee the next day and learn more about the company. I was unemployed and wanted friends, so I signed up.
What about Mary Kay appealed to you most?
The income, friends, getting out of the house, work when I want…but really, I worked when whoever was having a party wanted me. Nights, weekends, so I had to get a sitter and lose precious time with my husband who has weekends off.
Tell us about one of your most memorable or embarassing situations while in Mary Kay
My very first party was with my sis-in-laws and sister. i was wearing an elastic waisted skirt, and when I got up to use the kitchen sink, my skirt was halfway down my heiney!!!
What did you learn from your Mary Kay experience?
Just because it says MK on it, doesn’t mean you’re getting a deal. I don’t like the idea of me paying for someone else’s hotel room because they jacked the price up on me. The jewelry costs $7.95 online. I’d rather pay for it upfront, than spend $200 a month for 3 months going deeper and deeper in debt just to “win” something that will turn my finger green. I learned that people suck. when they say they want a facial, and so I get all MK’d up in my nylons and skirt, drive to their house and oh, guess what, they forgot, or better yet, they’re not home. thankfully, they weren’t that far away, and my house didn’t burn down bc my 1st grade son had to stay home by himself. If someone has to use God to make you believe in something…that’s a red flag.
What are you doing now? Working full or part time? Working from home? etc.
Full-time mom, and I love every minute of it. When I decided to send my inventory back, I felt so free, and like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. No more feeling guilty if I didn’t sell anything this week, no more director calling me to see how many classes are on my datebook, no more paying for “free” training. I’m dead broke, and would rather work a full-time job and get paid, then get measly pay for harassing women, and feeling guilty.
