How were you recruited?
My best friend said that a MK lady was coming to her house and that she and another girl were “Helping her out” with a portfolio of before/after shots. I went just for a night out. I really liked the products but I didn’t buy any. I tried to cancel my follow up appointment by telling her I didn’t have any money, she suggested I hold a party to earn free product so I did. At my party she sold over $700 and I thought “That looks pretty easy” so I signed up when she delivered my stuff the next day.

What about Mary Kay appealed to you most?
I had been a stay at home mom for about a year and getting out for “girl time” is what really appealed to me. I was bored and wanted to use my business skills, and of course the thought of making lots of money!

Tell us about one of your most memorable or embarassing situations while in Mary Kay
I generally just feel embarrassed about how much time I spent calling, e-mailing, and harassing my friends to have parties. I am also embarrassed that I didn’t do more research before signing and that I fell for all of their lines and lies. I feel like I was almost brainwashed and that is scary.

What did you learn from your Mary Kay experience?
I learned to do more research before signing up for anything and never, EVER go into debt for something like this. I also learned that emotional manipulation works on me even thought I never would have liked to admit that. I don’t have much trust for people anymore because of this.

What are you doing now? Working full or part time? Working from home? etc.
I am a full time stay at home mom. I also babysit a little boy on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and clean my mom’s house for extra money. My inventory return will allow me to break even on my inventory expenses but I will be working to pay back my other expenses (the ones they don’t tell you about when you sign up) for a long time.
