How were you recruited?
I had just moved to the VA Beach area as my husband was military and was at a city fair. Our church had a table under a tent with the MK table. Spin a wheel, “win a prize!” A woman called to set up a time to drop my prize off and why don’t we do a facial too. I was desperately looking for adult conversation as I had just had my first baby, moved to a completely new place and didn’t know anyone. Anyway, she worked full circle and I was in. I think she was going through DIQ at the time and didn’t make it that time, but did a few years later.
What about Mary Kay appealed to you most?
Meeting people, belonging somewhere. I was going to stay home with our baby no matter what, but a little extra cash was appealing.
Tell us about one of your most memorable or embarassing situations while in Mary Kay
I think it’s just being able to see through so much of it now and wondering how I missed it all those years. There are so many catch phrases that every one tosses around, but if you think about them, they are so damaging!
What are you doing now? Working full or part time? Working from home? etc.
I’m still an active consultant and I have 10 team members although only 4 are active right now I think. I’ve always stayed home with my now 3 children. I’m in the process of downsizing/cleaning out my MK world and searching for another means of income.
What did you learn from your Mary Kay experience?
I really do have a good director and senior that taught good skills over all. Time management, customer service, discipline. I did learn to go into everything with eyes wide open and to analyze what is said by what is done.
