First name or nickname: Rebecca
Date you joined MK: January 2002
Highest level attained: Director
Date left company: July 2005
Initial Inventory purchased: $600.00
Brief story of where / how you were recruited:I went to a MK party with some work friends (the consultant also worked with us). She gave us her little recruiting talk and I thought it sounded interesting. She then set up a time to do a 3-way “interview” with her director. I signed up on the phone that night.
What thing(s) appealed to you most about the MK opportunity:
Moving up as far as you wanted to go. I was a graphic designer and in the jobs I had there was usually no opportunity to move up. I was excited about the idea of being a director and eventually a National.
What was your most embarrassing moment as a consultant:
Calling people from fishbowls and telling me they were never interested. An old co-worker telling me to stop harassing her b/c she was not interested in the products at all. Telling my unit how great being a director was, when really I was barely hanging on. Quitting my great graphic design job to sell makeup.
What are you doing now?
I am a new mom (I have a 10 month old son) and I am in real estate where the idea of earning “$5000 in one month!” is more realistic that it ever was in MK (for me).
What are the main things you learned from your experience?
Thinking positive IS a good thing, however, it’s not going to get you what you want. Telling yourself you are a Pink Cadillac Sales Director does not make you one. NEVER lose who you are for someone or something else. Someone else’s dreams don’t have to be your dreams.
