Candace Got the Kit But Is Sending It Back

First name or nickname: Candace

17 August 2006
Highest level attained:
Consultant
Date left company:
Active
Initial Inventory purchased:
$150.00

Brief story of where / how you were recruited: My closest friend has been in Mary Kay for years and two years we have been friends and she even paid for my starter kit which I just opened today I also paid the $25 for my website. I really starting thinking of a way to make money and all the parties I would have. I think that I was right to now have paid for the kit. I will send her money back and the kit. I just opened it and I am happy I found out about this. I am disappointed she did that to me. Bit hey she has to eat so do I THANK GOD I ONLY INVESTED $25 She will have to wait for her money though. That is what she gets for tricking me.

What thing(s) appealed to you most about the MK opportunity: Making the money.

What was your most embarrassing moment as a consultant or a story you’d like to share: Telling my husband I can do it and not eve starting now after seeing this website.

What are you doing now? I am a stay at home mom I have been applying for customer service agents jobs at home. Trying to earn a honest income. Honestly I have no idea where on earth I am going. I want to be home with my kid but falling into MLMs will send me to get a real JOB sooner than I would like.

What are the main things you learned from your experience? NOT TO TRUST ANYBODY even friends from two years ago.

i was a mary kay consultant before and had attempted DIQ three times too. I think you really do trust people too easily. You do not want to trust your friend but you trust strangers you just randomly meet online? i believe there were much more in the backgound with these people when they post comments like that. And i truly think there is always good or bad in a event. when you are being told so many Bad things at the same time, won’t you feel it’s weird and the information could be really biased??

MK_m. I agree that most of the comments are negative but on all the sites about MK MOST OF THE COMMENTS ARE NEGATIVE because MOST OF THE PEOPLE HAVE HAD BAD EXPERIENCES. You have to be naive to discredit them all!

I am a MK consultant as well. What I’ve noticed in MK is that they are always trying to get you to buy more inventory…AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE without really focusing or being concerned about you being able to sell them all. I have been in MK for almost 2 years, when I first started the room for my unit meetings was full of consultants. And that was the case even just a few months ago. Now, we’re lucky to get 10 consultants to show up on a tuesday night. My guess is that most of them have had the same experiences these people have had. It makes me so glad that I never let anyone convince into buying so much inventory that I’m not gonna be able to sell. I have bought very little inventory and have only been able to sell about 60% of it…and that’s barely. So much for this “product selling itself”!

I just have to say that sure, there are a lot of pushy MK consultants and directors out there, but you do control your business. I have been a MK consultant for almost 2 years now, and have taken full responsibility over the amount I have or have not worked my business. Sure, there is pressure to continue to buy more product, but you are never forced to. I always just make sure to place a $200 order ($400 retail) once a year to remain active. I just have to comment on this because as a woman and an individual, you have to have a business strategy. For me, I work my MK on the side. It’s a fantastic way to earn money as a full-time mom and part-time working mom (i work outside the house at night, when my kids are asleep).
So yes, take caution of business pressures–especially when the person advising you has some monetary interest in you. But don’t discredit it completely just because you have heard some negative stories.
Take it from me–you can become successful and make some decent money in this business. But it’s difficult. And it’s hard to remain motivated. And it’s scary to go out on a limb and organize parties for strangers. But you CAN make it work and become successful at it.
My one piece of advice: just don’t order a huge lot of inventory at the beginning. That was my one mistake. Even though I have a regular customer base, I am still stuck with product I don’t think I’ll ever sell. And that daytime solution and sunscreen DOES expire… At the most, I should have ordered around $1500 in inventory.
So, get out there and give it a try. Train yourself to be brave in these new situations and don’t give up just because other people have had negative experiences.

Jen, may I respectfully suggest that you reread your post and your own words?  If you are making sure to place a minimum $200 wholesale order 1x per year you are not making money! Wake up, before you become one of those people with a “negative” experience and debt!
There are many jobs you could do after your kids are in bed, with no investment and earn a regular paycheck that you can count on and probably have paid benefits,  a retirement plan and paid vacation too!
Ask yourself why there are so many “negative” stories and so few “positive” stories?  Could it be that most people don’t make any money and consider the MK opportunity to be a huge mistake?

I wonder if there is an equivalent site to pinklighthouse that is written in Wendy’s native tounge.  She might have more luck getting her point across and being taken seriously if she can express herself in her first language…  I really don’t think that any of the ideas she’ s presented here are of any substance whatsoever anyways.

Honestly ladies,  this type of talk disturbs me.  Every single person that comes here trying to relay the positive aspects of Mary Kay spouts the exact same babble we were trained to believe.  These women have been brainwashed to feel this way about the company and about their own businesses regardless of the realitly of their situation.  Anyone that has been involved in Mary Kay for any period of time would know that the positive views expressed by Wendy (and anyone else that talks of Mary Kay in a positive light for that matter) have been generated by the company and its National Sales Directors and regurgitated over and over by Consultants and Directors all over the world in their attempts to “fake it ’til they make it.”

    Sad, just so very sad.

Blessings to you Wendy, you’re the one that is going to need them.
